‘At last! I’ve discovered William Barclay, and he’s brilliant.' (Diane Louise Jordan)

‘It is as if he is so constantly excited by the subject matter that he hopes to infect the reader with his own sense of wonder at the riches which the Word of God has to offer.' (John Bell) --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Very straight forward presentation of complicated truth. Barclay is a sound teacher who gives an in depth understanding of the subject matter to the layman.

HASH(0x8de74c84) out of 5 stars wonderful book 25 July 2000

Format: Paperback
Like pretty much all of Dr. Barclay's books, the Letter to the Hebrews makes the Bible verses that are so difficult to comprehend easy to understand and beautiful. His Bible studies are good whether you're reading the Bible for the first time or whether you're studying it in depth. He gives you a lot of historical background which really helps. I did find the section about priesthood (Hebrews chapter 7) slightly tedious, but that's my only complaint. It's definitely a worth while read.

This is probably the best volume in the New Daily Study Bible series. I would also recommend Hebrews for Everyone by Tom Wright and Hebrews by George H. Guthrie.

HASH(0x8dca872c) out of 5 stars The best volume in Barclay's NT Daily Study Bible 7 July 2006
By Ha Ha Ha - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Barclay is one of the most insightful commentators of the New Testament. Although much of the background information and schalorship in his commentaries are now outdated, his comments on the relevance of the Bible are still very valuable for today's discerning readers. This is especially true for his volume on Hebrews. For more updated commentary on Hebrews for beginning students, Tom Wright's "Hebrews For Everyone" is a very good choice. The volume on Hebrews in NIV Application Commentary series is excellent for slightly more advanced students.

A useful reference for Bible Study, although I did find a couple of instances of beliefs contrary to those held by us Catholics. Also, it is not as in-depth as, for example, Barkley's Book of Luke, which often brought me to tears with it's beautiful analysis. I thought this was more "on the surface" than Luke. In that respect, I was a little disappointed. Nonetheless, I believe this may help expand on concepts taught by other references.

HASH(0x8df44ad4) out of 5 stars The high point of Barclay's Daily Study Bible Series 24 Nov. 2014
By PK - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
For me, The Letter to the Hebrews is Barclay's best work in the New Daily Study Bible Series. All of William’s strengths converge in this volume. If you are a layperson, and new to the Book of Hebrews, this is an excellent starting point.
Hebrews is a unique and special book it the New Testament. It was William that got me excited about it and up to speed enough to move into some of the more advanced commentaries.
