It's a great insight into where Georgette Heyer got her tidbits of gossip. As a thorough historian, she drew on many sources for her novels. This gives us a glimpse into early 19thC life and is a bit of a treasure house for Regency lovers. However, not a compelling read - more a dipping in and having a look sort of read.

Tremendously gossipy provided the reader has an understanding of early 19th century life or is willing to use a reference book to find out who Lady Spencer Stanhope is talking about.

quite interesting to read how the uppercrust spent their time. Full of anecdotes from the days of debutantes and Napoleon
