There are a few other Japanese picture dictionaries out there. But the reason I chose this one was simply because, it was the only one I saw comes complete with romaji, Kana and kanji and also the English translation.
When ever I have a few minutes to spare I just take this book out and memorize a few more words. I find it easier to remember with the help of some illustrations.
This book is aimed at western children and covers words which they are likely to be familiar with such as bed. It doesn't attempt to teach Japanese cultural items such as futon which the reader may be unfamiliar with.
This is an American book and no attempt has been made to anglicise it so many of the English words are different to those we in the UK (and probably other countries) would use but this book is for learning Japanese not English so these words are not the important things here.
I did find a few of the items to be in rather odd categories and not in the obvious place but for the most part, this is a great little picture dictionary for children learning Japanese.
