Chris Montez had all the qualifications to become a member of the One Hit Wonder Club but no such thing took place.
Instead his profile was considerably enlarged when he appeared with the Beatles.
Afetr a 3rd top 100 entry with My baby loves to dance there was a lull which lasted until 2 years after the British Invasion and its where he found himself signed to the A & M label where he crafted a series of MOR items of either songs from the 40s or bossa nova ones.
Call me-a cover version of a Pet Clark hit-was where it started and he made the top 10 with a version of The More I see you
Later in the 70s Lets Dance would score at least twice again on the U K charts but fortuantely he never became too ambitious as to become a singer songwriter or purveyor of World Music

5.0 out of 5 stars Early Latino Rocker and acomplished balladeer. 16 Aug. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Chris Montez, early latino rocker influenced by Ritchie Valens as evidenced by a couple of Valens sound alike tunes and his concert staples(not on the CD) La Bamba and Donna. This Cd also includes Ritchies' Turkish Town cover, same arrangement. Chris does some beautiful ballads on this CD including a duet with Monogram stablemate Kathy Young (1,000 stars). His soft ballad sound on this CD is later exploited by Herb Alpert when Chris moved over to A&M. This CD is early Chris Montez with Let's Dance (#4 POP) and Some Kinda Fun (#43 POP)and a couple of attempts at Surf Music (Chris attended Hawthorne High with the Beachboys)and the CD starts out with a great Chris Montez Introduction. There is a very similar Cd package Available with two additional Kathy Young Duets and all of his A&M recordings of which six were big cahrt hits. Both Cd's are a must for Chris Montez fans and Latin Rock Historians. Chris is still touring mostly with a Bobby Vee package and is the nicest guy in person.
.........Vince Guillen, a big fan.

In the early 1970's my sister and I were teenagers. At the drugstore a person could buy albums for $1.99. My sister bought a 60's hits album for some songs she liked by various artists. We had never heard of Chris Montez, but "Let's Dance" was on this album. It was our favorite song on the record. (We liked dancing to it in our room after school...) I bought this CD the other day on Amazon for that song. Sometimes there is only one good song on an album, but I love every song on this! So glad I bought it. It was great to workout to. If you like early rock and roll with a little Latin flavor, buy this CD. I'm going to get this for my sister's birthday. She can't have mine.
