In 1998, two years after their previous studio album, the Britpop classic 'A Maximum High' (which remains my personal favourite), five-piece York band Shed Seven delivered a very confident third record, which marked a significant change in direction.

'Let It Ride' is an all together punchier affair than it's predecessors, with a harder rock edge. 'Stand Up and Be Counted' is a great rocker with plenty of swagger. A grab bag of hits, the album spawned four singles, and the first, the beautiful 'Chasing Rainbows', has become a signature tune for the band. The following release, 'She Left Me Friday', is loaded with attitude but, despite reaching as high as no.11 in the UK charts, is one of my least favourites. The remaining singles, 'The Heroes', sounds like a mixture between Oasis and The Verve, and the balladry 'Devil In Your Shoes' is one of my own personal highlights, along with 'Halfway Home' and the breezy tune 'A Hole', which provides a mellow interval from the rockers.

If you're a fan of the aforementioned Oasis, or just guitar driven music with excellent riffs in general, then you'll really enjoy this sing-along indie-rock album, packed with quality tunes which should have been anthems, from a band which, despite their stream of hits, have become very underrated to just about anyone who wasn't a Britpop enthusiast. These men, who have one hell of a vocalist with Rick Witter in charge of the singing, are so much more than 'Going For Gold', and 'Let It Ride' has aged very well.

Excellent album. Could may be the sheds best. It is right up there with a Maximum high.
Starts off with a bang with the track 'return' and includes the singles 'The heroes' 'She left me on Friday' and 'Chasing rainbows'. Got this used as Good as New and it was.

I'm surprised there aren't any other reviews of the rather splendid Shed Seven album on here. Following on from the relative-success of "Maximum High" I bought "Let It Ride" half expecting to be disappointed. I was mistaken. Although perhaps not as strong as Max High, it certainly is a great creation, and the title track alone makes this one worth buying.

The return is a fine way to open an album, and tracks like devil in your shoes and drink your love are nice but lack that special kick. However songs like she left me on a friday and chasing rainbows and stand up and be counted really shine.
Well worth checking out.

This album features one of the best opening songs i've ever heard. Great Indie guitar rifts and songs you wont forget in a hurry.
I couldn't recommend it enough.
