"Love Lessons at Midnight" really surprised me - in a very positive sense. Before I started to read it I wasn't sure whether it would be a romance or rather an erotic romance. Yes, there are explicit but tastefully described sensual scenes but it is also a very romantic book with wonderful and interesting characters. Well written, well constructed and
intense.

I loved to see how those two characters, both wounded, both vulnerable, but nevertheless trying to overcome their fears.
Rob comes to The House of Dreams because his desastrous first marriage makes him want to learn how to pleasure a woman. Lady Fantasia, the mistress of the House of Dreams, agrees to find him a tutor, Gabrielle. Gabrielle's experience with love making is one of pain and fear. These two set out to find out together how to find peasure in the act of love. Enjoying Gabrielle and their lessons at midnight and Lady Fantasia's sharp witted and intelligent company by day, Rob starts to realize what he has been missing in his life. When Lady Fantasia is threatened by her cruel and depraved husband whom she left years ago, Rob is at her side but - will that be enough to protect her from the wrath of this madman?

I was captivated by this unusual story with its wonderful characters and even though Rob was a bit too slow to realize what really counts and what he really feels, I won't hold that against him, as in the end he did it and despite some twists and turns that kept me on my toes and got me a teeny tiny bit worried, I got my HEA in the end and soooo..... all is well and I can recommend this book as I really liked it!

HASH(0x8f408b70) out of 5 stars wonderful Regency romance 16 July 2010
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
In London, nothing that men want shocks Lady Fantasia, owner of the infamous House of Dreams bordello. Her establishment makes the dreams of her wealthy clientele come true for a hefty payment; anything goes with one exception being no one can have her.

For two years Robert St. John, as the reformist Earl of Barrington, ripped bordellos like the House of Dreams in Parliament. However he visits the establishment to ask Lady Fantasia to have her most gifted courtesan mentoring him in satisfying the needs of a lady, namely his future spouse.

Having been an abused spouse when Lady Fantasia was Amber Wolverton, wife to a sadistic mad Marquess, she is intrigued by her new customer's request as this is a refreshing change than the usual me-me. Breaking her golden rule, she becomes Gabrielle, Rob's French instructress. As he proves to be a star pupil in her class of induction of Love Lessons At Midnight, they fall in love, which in turn heals their battered hearts. However, love may not be enough for the patron and the owner yet at the House of Dreams fantasies do come true.

The key to this wonderful Regency romance is the lead couple who both have issues of the heart and soul for bad marriages when he insanely visits her at her brothel. The great adventure of this discerning tale is observing the pair heal through their bonding with love for one another. Readers who relish a character driven relationship drama will enjoy Shirl Henke's fabulous tale of the healing redemption of love even for seemingly lost souls.

HASH(0x914a7180) out of 5 stars A sizzling, sexy, summer read! 10 July 2010
By Anon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Shirl Henke delivers yet another gorgeous love story! Love Lessons at Midnight is an exquisitely crafted tale of mystery, history, and passion that will leave you wanting more. The characters--whether the honorable but psychologically torn Rob, Earl of Barrington, or the seductively enigmatic Lady Fantasia, madam of London's "House of Dreams" bordello, or Gabrielle, a compassionate French courtesan, or Amber Leighigh, the deeply wounded marchioness--absolutely enchant. With clever, captivating dialogue, these characters share the pages with plot lines so surprisingly connected and masterfully interwoven that their culmination will leave you breathless.
With deeply sensual description, meticulously researched detail, and sparkling style, Shirl Henke offers up a fantastic and incredibly sexy summer read (although this reader would enjoy it just as much in winter, spring, and fall.)
How refreshing to find such a new--truly new--take on the Regency era romance. Absolutely splendid.

HASH(0x9090ba98) out of 5 stars Shirl Henke gives a fantastic read! 18 July 2010

Shirl Henke is an incredible writer who knows how to create a perfect blend of history, sensuality, and character. I became totally involved in the world she created and was sorry when the book ended. I just love the whole idea of love lessons, and she really made the most of it. Very, very talented author. I'm going to put her on my "must read" list.
HASH(0x8f416048) out of 5 stars House of Dreams with Lady Fantasia 14 Jun. 2016
By Angela Dawn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Beautiful characters with a sweet happily ever after Love Lessons at Midnight does not disappoint. Running away from an abusive husband, Amber finds a home with Grace at her House of Dreams in London. Amber and Rob are wonderful together. They both seek to right social injustices such as child labor. They both have secrets about their past they are each afraid to reveal. Also, Amber and Rob need lessons in love. Under the disguise of Lady Fantasia and Gaby, Amber is able to hide her real identity to avoid recognition from the destructive husband she left long ago. The focus of the story is learning to overcome the past.

Rob is conflicted on his feelings for 2 no make that 3 women! But what he doesn't know is 2 of the women he likes is one and the same - Amber. She'd make the perfect actress on stage. Her ability to convince Rob that as Gaby, she's a native of France yet as Fantasia/Amber she is all English lol! I think it's funny how in the beginning Rob had his eyes set on the widow and even sought out lessons in how to please her yet he begins to dislike her the more time he spends around Amber.

The secondary characters are what really make the story good. I like books that use secondary characters to make the story. Without all their help and guidance Rob and Amber wouldn't even have a story to begin with. Her French bodyguard/friend is my favorite character. She is willing to risk her life in protecting Amber and keeping her safe from Amber's husband. She even plots to sneak into his home and kill him.

I'm rating Love Lessons at Midnight a 4 out of 5 stars - excellent characters throughout and a great but somewhat predictable ending. Very good historical romance!

I received this ebook from the publishers for my honest review.
