Product Description

Product Description

Herein bumps and soars Lese Majesty, the new sonic action of Shabazz Palaces. Honed and primal, chromed and primo. A unique and glorified offering into our ever-uniforming musical soundscape. Lese Majesty is a beatific war cry, born of a spell, acknowledging that sophistication and the instinctual are not at odds; Indeed an undoing of the lie of their disparate natures.

Lese Majesty is not a launching pad for the group's fan base increasing propaganda. It is a series of astral suites, recorded happenings, shared. A dare to dive deep into Shabazz Palaces sounds, vibrations unfettered. A dope-hex thrown from the compartments that have artificially contained us all and hindered our sublime collusion.

These reveries were sent to Palaceer Lazaro and Fly Guy 'Dai in the year of gun beat battles in excess; In a succession of days, whilst walking in dreams and in varied transcendental states….(every minute of every day is filled with observation and composition. In action). Songs are committed and gathered by robots at Protect and Exalt Labs, a Black Space in Seattle, Washington.

The visual features of Lese Majesty are resultant of the gleanings of fellow Constellationaire, Nep Sidhu.

The Black Constellation squads up, protects and exalts the messages within, and colludes accordingly. We thank you.

There will be those who say this is not "real" hip-hop, but the fact is this is more real than the vacuous, superficial music being released by most mainstream hip-hop artists.

It's a dreamlike record, which plays with the notion of what hip-hop should sound like, and is a lot more interesting as a result. It's not going to fill dancefloors anywhere, but it is one of the best "headphone albums" I've heard in a long time.

If Sun Ra had come back from Saturn with a sampler and a set of decks rather than a synth, this isn't far off what he would have sounded like.

HASH(0x896687a4) out of 5 stars No Jesus Piece 5 Aug. 2014

This album takes a few listens. It is soulful and atmospheric, and more subtle than their debut. You can drop the needle anywhere on the record and still find that you are able to immerse yourself in the music instantly due to its seamless flow. Production is superb and Ishmael's lyrics are tight, although less pronounced in comparison to those on Black Up. If you are a fan then pick up the album. What you get is a continuous soundscape of hip hop in its purest, un-diluted form. No frills. No hoes. No guns. No rims. No Jesus Piece. Amen.

HASH(0x89477990) out of 5 stars Afro-strut 11 Aug. 2014
By Pablo Critton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Vinyl
This release came as quite a surprise, after such a long hiatus between Lese and Black Up. Shabazz Palaces traffic in sounds and ideas most often pegged with the Afro-futurist cultural aesthetic that combines science fiction and historical fiction, and Afrocentricity in order to critique and reflect on modern life and its many trials and tribulations.

The music delves into this space with grace, and panache highlighted by brilliantly conceived sonic palettes that overall are much less rigid and electro-y and more melodic with constantly shifting textures and freer more fluid song-structures and vocals steeped in echo-y reverb reminiscent of dub's cavernous soundscapes and strutting rhythms. Its not your typical radio-fare; its an adventurous, rewarding sonic excursion that will certainly take you on a different path and leave you with a few things to chew on. Highly Recommended.

Some of the best hip-hop of our time... These guys are so very musically conscious and ahead of a lot going on in the hip hop game these days.

Mysterious, spine-chilling hip hop (last I can recall like that is Cannibal Ox). No posturing, no vapid lyrics (though as others have noted, they are cryptic so I can't really speak to them). For fans of Caribou and Flying Lotus, though there's not really an apt comparison at hand.
