It is difficult being objective about writing a review of a friend's book. Hats off to anybody just to put quill to paper which the author has achieved in quality English.

When Michael left London at the end of the 60's, to go to South Africa, I don't think any of his friends knew his determination to seek real adventure. Just to enter the Ironman races or the awesome canoe races down less than hospitable rivers requires a real discipline and courage to acheive a fitness above that required for a marathon.
I have often had disagreements with him over hunting, but his quill is better than his spoken word. He brings an excitement to his hunting which is not guns 1 to 10 in a shoot in the shires but gruelling marches over the African terrain in pursuit. Always with his beautiful wife Vivienne who in some ways is tougher than the author but one would not know it as she maintains her beauty as she had when a debutante.
The author has gone a bit native over the Springboks or even OTT, however at times they do play a great dirty game.
The reader will find a latent military man in Michael who had an excellent National Service as in contrast to rather unfortunate stints in advertising. A great line from one of his bosses was that he was an excellent director of out going accounts. He made up for it by starting a very succesful tie maunufactoring company. The ties were screen printed to a standard of their own but as less people wear ties now days he got out at the write time.
This book is a very good read and many young people should read it as an example of determination.

A beautifully written book which will appeal to those with interest in South Arica and Big Game Hunting. The author's description of near to death encounters with buffalo and lion; short incarceration in a Zimbabean jail are particularly captivating.

Despite appearing in the book this is a great read for anyone who enjoys Big Game Hunting and enjoys life to the full without conforming to the 9 to 5 routine. Great escape from the norm.

Superbly written. This captures with ease the great humour, pathos, adventure and unrelenting toughness of THE truly wild continent of Africa that time has not changed.
The author is the epitomy of this fascinating story of how real people still live real lives...packed to the brim with challenge, sheer bloody minded determination, and fine achievement.
If you do not know this place, you soon will, and if you do know this place, you will laugh and weep and be thankful.
