Windows 10 home (no disc supplied)
intel celeron processor 1.6GHz
4 GB RAM
64 bit operating system standard (non touch input) display
The storage space is described as 500GB but I found it to be only 400GB ish availabledue to used up soace and a lower than 500GB starting amount so that might be the main reason this is described as ideapad rather than laptop. Still, for soneone like me happy to use cloud based storage or hook up an external drive, it will be fine. I tend to like 2 copies of my data in any case so use both and never rely on one instance as all hard drives can fail with no notice(!)
It comes pre installed with 30 day McAfee antivirus which I was able to turn off and uninstall easily, allowing Windows defender to automatically turn on and protect the computer, which I prefer to McAfee as it is free and works well.
The computer took about 10 minutes to run through the initial set up including adding my home wifi connection and choosing a username. Password for username was not obligatory and can be skipped but a username must be chosen.
The product though described as an ideapad is essentially a laptop as the screen is not touch input and the size of this is the same as my work and most laptops other than the big or teeny screen option ones as its 15.6 inch.
The trackpad is easy to use and so is the bottom click bar. The laptop comes with 2 features I found non standard and that might be useful; a disc drive and bluetooth. This enhanced both retro and advanced communication methods rather than the solo option of internet as means of data transfer put this in a better class of laptop than all I have seen which is quite a few both at work and friends houses. Bluetooth means this laptop, though it has speakers, can be paired to bluetooth external speaker/s which is not just great for parties, it means videos can be watched on screen which adds great flexibility to this laptop. As a further aid to data transfer this also has USB 3.0
Installed programs included along with Windows 10, were Edge, intel processor graphics programs, various Lenovo programs and realtek bluetooth.
Using the Cortana assistant at the bottom near the start bar button, I typed the name of the program I also wanted to install which was firefox, and an internet search was performed and I was quickly able to install that as I like to use that. along with google chrome as my main browsers.I was offered the option during set up of installing some commonly used 'apps' and did choose skype but disliked the lack of intelligent integration with my existing account though I had logged in with that, so I uninstalled it and will make a fresh install via the skype website later.
This is better than entry level for a laptop unless you set a large store by storage space, and the fact you have so many options of data transfer method make this a great choice of present for yourself if you have been struggling with a 5 or nore year old laptop or computer, or for someone special you want to treat.
Negs: It has a clunky keyboard which although has incorporated a number pad, it has also had to offset the mouse pad meaning it's off centre for us right handed people. If you are a leftie this is the laptop for you! Meanwhile us right hookers need to adapt our seating and typing position (yes some of us still use the keyboard!). THe cursor keys are too close to the shift key arrow and so far I've lost count of how many times I've hit that key rather than the cursors. The power cord is a flimsy looking (short too) thing and is annoyingly centered right in the middle of the left side of the laptop which is also where ALL the connectivity is for USB, Ethernet and HDMI. Again this places everything to the left side of the machine, if you use a mouse then you need a very long lead to wrap around the back of the laptop to the right hand side (unless you are a leftie). In fact, the only thing on the right hand side is the disc drive which I havn't used other than to open and close to check operation. The mouse pad buttons are also very stiff which I'm hoping may change over time.
Pos: It is cheap. It has reasonable capacity to run a number of programs like Excel and the web at the same time. It has a good size screen, sound quality is acceptable for a laptop. Its load speed is fair enough and its lag on large excel files with macros is on a par with my much more expensive and powerful HP that died. It's light weight for a larger laptop, quite slip and has a nice enough look and feel about it, albeit a little overly plastic.
So all in all, its okay for the money. It's not going to be the fastest machine you've ever used but unless you're into huge graphic consumption or streaming HD high bandwidth files then its adequate. Personally I'd have rated it much higher had it been a little more evenly laid out to use the keyboard and plug ports but if you are on a budget and need a higher than average ram/processor then this is one to consider for sure. If you are left handed I imagine this is your dream machine!
So the whole process was annoying and we ended up wasting a trip into town in the pouring rain for no reason. Came home, ordered this, and it arrived the next day with the amazon prime free trial. No fuss or hassle. My girlfriend loves the laptop and it is a vast improvement on her old one, runs games and art software with no issues.

This is the worst laptop I've ever used. I bought it as a present for my mum but it's basically un-usable and should never have been sold.Read more
