Long Battery Life

Laptops are invaluable for getting things done, but they're also only as good as their battery life. We take our laptops everywhere and expect batteries to keep up with us. For that reason, long battery life tops the list for many laptop buyers.

Lenovo's Power Manager helps you get the most from your battery.

Lenovo's laptops are designed to run cool, which is one of the reasons they take little power. The less the cooling fan has to run, the less battery power it takes. (Smart air flow offers another benefit—it's a lot more comfortable on your wrists and lap to work on a cool system than a hot one.)

Power Manager

Lenovo laptops come loaded with Power Manager to help you easily manage your power settings. Just slide the bar towards the left for higher performance or to the right for longer battery life. Power Manager handles all the behind-the-scenes work.

Battery Stretch

Fight the dreaded "low battery" notification. Power Manager's Battery Stretch automatically turns off certain functions, like radio and Bluetooth, in order to squeeze out those extra crucial minutes of power you need to get the job done.

Battery Quality

We set above-industry standards for our battery suppliers, and we vigorously test the batteries that we allow in our systems for safety and for long life.

I've no complaints about the design of the IdeaPad U300s itself. It has a better keyboard than many other 1st generation ultrabooks and a decent battery life. The main drawback of the device is a rather middling screen which isn't particularly bright and is very glossy, as has been remarked in most reviews, though I still found it perfectly usable. The laptop is fast to boot and shut down, and runs quietly. The 128Gb SSD was big enough to support dual booting the installed
Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux and the machine was seriously fast. I am also quite taken by the "book" styling, which is one up on various other ultrabooks that seem to be aping the MacBook Air.

Unfortunately, the LCD screen failed after a couple of weeks use. When I contacted Amazon they were very helpful and offered a refund or, as an alternative, provided details for a Lenovo warranty repair. I duly contacted Lenovo, who operate their European repair service via Medion in Germany and an uplift for repair was arranged within a few days. When I received a "now your laptop has been repaired" email after 10 days from Medion without any sign of the laptop I contacted the Lenovo repair service to try and ascertain what was going on and it has taken three weeks for them to determine that they have lost the laptop. I am still waiting to see if it will be replaced or a refund offered. At no stage in this process has anyone volunteered information to me, I have had to call their (UK) helpline for information or explicitly request that emails be responded to. The latest quibble seems to be that they want me to provide the waybill for the uplift, even though the laptop reached the Medion repair centre in Germany and was lost on the return journey, for which the tracking information is available via DPD.

i cant believe there are no reviews of this yet,i was looking at the acer s3 but changed my mind when i saw this next to it,it feels like a quality bit of kit lovely size and feels expensive unlike the acer model which feels flimsy and cheap.the screen i think is quite vibrant and the keyboard feels nice and solid,so far seems to be quite speedy plays hd you tube videos very well and i think the speakers are not to bad for a small machine all in all i would highly recommend this even the pointer and trackpad are good, and pcworld are doing this online price for £100 less at £799 so a bargain at the moment.

So far, I have found this to be the best laptop i have yet bought.

The first thing that impresses is the design: it appears to be very robust and elegant, and yet it is extremely light. I looked at some of the rival Ultrabooks, and they don't look as nice. Also, I haven't noticed any fan noise.

The performance is also very impressive on the applications I have used. I am not a gamer, but I do use other applications which are heavy on processor and disk. Clearly, the Solid State Disk works very effectively on this system. I think boot time for Windows 7 is around 2 or 3 seconds. Perhaps using an SSD there is an increased risk of failure compared to a standard disk - I hope mine lasts well. Of course, disk space is limited on an SSD, but it is *very* fast, and does not get hot.

The only negative which I see is the limited number of USB ports (two). However, given the price, this is not a surprise. Higher spec machines with additional interfaces within the Lenovo family understandably cost more.

If this were a car, it would be an Audi. The thing feels and looks well made without a hint of flashiness; the photos don't do it justice. Some six months ago these were priced in the same range as the Asus UX31s and Apple Macbook Air. I try not to have anything to do with Apple because of the way they seem to tie you in to their products, as if they were cult recruiters for The Church of Appology . The Asus has stayed pricey and Apples are always silly money. Even when in that price range, the Lenovos were rated fairly highly by various reviewers. A few marked them down because they didn't like the placement of the up and down arrows, some moaned about the battery life (though this is high for its class), a few thought the screen viewing angles were poor, but then went on to say that this was a problem with all ultrabooks, and some wanted more ports (there are already more than I'll ever use, so quite what for is difficult to say). These comments were made when the machine was going for over £1000. I noticed one of the reviewers here seeming to be very happy to have paid only £800 for his machine. Two weeks these were £535 and so I bought one. None of the reviewer's quibbles have caused me any bother. The only thing I've noticed is that Wi-Fi signals seem a bit weaker than with my last laptop. If I lost this one, I'd buy one again.
