At £600 it's by far the best value for money in the market. Was much less than I was willing to spend too which was also nice. The laptop I received was with the i7-3632qm processor, not the listed i7-3630qm processor. This wasn't an issue for me though, I thought amazon may have listed the processor wrong because the i7-3632qm processor is the one this laptop comes with on the actual Lenovo website. I hadn't seen any touchscreen laptop with an actual quad core i7 processor (most have dual core ultrabook processors) so when I was this I knew I had to have it. Also, to my surprise, the laptop came with a backlit keyboard which was very pleasing. People have talked about how bad windows 8 is, but I find that with a touch screen it is very good and very easy to use. The graphics card is awesome too. Plays loads of recent games without any trouble at all. I've played f1 2012, nfs most wanted, grid 2, skyrim, tomb raider, fm2013 and simcity on it very well. The fan and laptop itself stays pretty cool even on high load. This was a very big plus for me, I've had some very high end spec laptops in the past and none of their cooling systems compare to the one this has got. Also the laptop speakers were pleasantly surprising. They are very loud and so you can watch films off it or tv or play games using the speakers. The laptop is well built, very nice design too and is quite light and slim for a laptop of this screen size. All in all a superb laptop. Best piece of kit I've ever owned.

At the time of writing, if you want a core i7-based Windows 8 touchscreen laptop, there isn't much choice out there. At £800, this Lenovo represents terrific value for money.

Ideally I'd have preferred an SSD but, in hindsight, the 1TB hard-drive is fast enough to not be a noticeable drag on performance. And I was concerned about the relatively low screen resolution, but games and films look crisp, with good levels of contrast and colour. The touchscreen works perfectly and is very easy to get used to.

On my previous laptop I was still using XP, having purposely avoided the car crashes that are Vista and Windows 7. Windows 8 takes some getting used to but, coupled with a touchscreen, has an efficient, modern feel. You soon get used to moving apps about into sidebars, or closing them, with simple swipes on the screen.

The build quality is very good for the price. It's advertised as chocolate brown, but it's so dark it's almost black. I use it mostly actually on my lap, and it doesn't get hot at all. I'm sure the fans must come on occasionally but they are completely silent.

Negatives? Well, nothing is perfect, but I feel it's mean to pick gripes with such a strong all round package. If I had to pick something it's that when I switch on (or wake) the laptop, the dvd tray opens. And the touchpad (which you still need to use from time to time) can be a little jumpy sometimes.

I'd really recommend this laptop.

This machine is about as good as it gets for a windows-based operating system at this price level. The i7 processor is remarkably fast. I use my machine primarily for business purposes, including elaborate spread sheets and large numbers of photographs. My previous workhorse was a Dell with Windows XP, which I loved. I also have a 13" machine for travelling, which has Windows 7. Couldn't get on with this at all. Now, with the Lenovo Z500, I have jumped to Windows 8 with a touch screen, and I absolutely love it. The touchscreen gets me to where I want to be much more quickly and more easily than with a mouse. The mouse is then used for the positioning of the cursor.
One reviewer has complained of the poor screen resolution - in fact, the viewing is excellent for the quoted resolution. Admittedly, it doesn't compare with the Mac's Retina screen, but it is more than good enough for all normal tasks.
The machine is relatively light in weight, and is easily portable. It has a nice feel to it and, whilst the design doesn't have the flair of a Mac, nevertheless it is pretty svelte. One of the main reasons that I purchased the Lenovo, though, is the keyboard. This is one of the best that I have come across, with easy typing. The shape and spacing of the keys really does help speed up typing whilst reducing typos quite dramatically.
Overall, then, a first class machine which I can thoroughly recommend.

I used this laptop for less than an hour before deciding it had to go back - I just couldn't live with the appalling screen which Lenovo should be ashamed of themselves for using in a laptop at this price. There are two problems. Firstly, it's only 1366x768 - it's high-time Amazon started to include screen res in the tech specs of laptops. Reviews I had read of the Z500 (just try googling "Lenovo Z500 touchscreen review") had led me to believe it had a 1600x900 screen. I could have lived with the resolution but the second and far more serious problem is the image quality. When I was setting up my user account I noticed that some of the text at the top of the screen was spidery, as if font smoothing wasn't working. It took a few minutes before I noticed that the smoothness of the text depended on the angle of the screen - I kid you not - the more I tilted the screen towards me the better text appeared. It was only when I had the screen tilted at about 90 degrees to the keyboard that text became smooth from top to bottom. No laptop should "force" you to use it a particular angle and this angle is not a good angle, especially if you're trying to use a touchscreen. Just to make sure I wasn't going mad I compared it with my Surface tablet - no matter what angle I view the Surface from text is always smooth so the problem is specific to the Lenovo screen. I'm so disappointed, this could have been a great laptop, now the hunt for a new laptop resumes ...
