Lenovo Energy Management 7.0
With Lenovo Energy Management 7.0, users are able to run their machine in a variety of different modes, depending on their needs. Power-Saver mode allows laptops to run exceptionally quietly with reduced fan noise. Balanced mode auto-detects user behaviour and knows when to run in a lower performance mode, allowing increased energy savings. High-Performance mode utilises a combination of high performance and thermal solution to increase performance levels.
Users can also protect and prolong their battery health by using features such as battery protection mode and battery gauge. Lenovo's energy management system can even monitor laptop behaviour and remind the user to choose battery modes that best suit their style of usage, thus extending the life of their battery.
Thermal Management System
Lenovo's Thermal Management System makes it easy to monitor the temperature of your laptop and allow it to auto-adjust the fan-speed, assuring your computer is kept at the optimal temperature whilst producing the lowest possible noise. This system also features a de-dusting mode to boost maintenance and ensure the high performance of your laptop continues.

The problems I have faced with it are ones which seem to be relatively consistent across the Lenovo G580s, I've googled them and other users seem to be facing the same hardware and software problems with the range.
The major problem seems to be some weakness in the hinge holding the screen to the base, such that the laminate covering the base is now coming away - meaning that not only will the screen will flap about and will close/open with a disturbing "CLACK", but also when the laptop is open there is about a 0.5cm gap between the red laminate and the black base, so you can see the electronics under the hood. Then when you close the laptop fully you have to push the red and the black parts of the base together, and even then it will not hold closed, so if you hold it upside down it would flap open.
The left mouse button is now also beginning to stick down.
The right directional key does not work.
Myself and a number of users have been trying to solve internet connection problems for a while, and I think after a year or so we are only just beginning to solve them - can't guarantee that your Lenovo G580 won't ship with exactly the same problems. Here is the thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/G580-Limited-access-Wireless-problem/td-p/915519
Overall, if I could afford I would take it in for repairs, but I spent a lot of money on this thing and I don't have the money. It just seems to be failing after about a year and half of regular use. I would recommend you consider other options if you are looking for a laptop, I don't think I will be purchasing another Lenovo unit in the future.
The first issue was trying to connect an external mouse, as many of you are aware the touch mouse is over sensitive and darts about all over. The usb socket was loose. Then a few days later we tried dvd's in both laptops and the noise and vibration were incredible. As we only use dvds to install software I decided to live with this rather than go through the whole process of returning them and replacing them and re installing all the software we needed.
Finally, approx. 6 weeks after buying them one of the laptops won't switch on although battery and charging. Most likely the motherboard.
But this is where the fun starts...
Buy a faulty jumper and you have a very long time to complain about it and return it to the shop and seller assumes responsibility. Spend hundreds of pounds on a laptop and you cannot deal with the seller but have to deal with the manufacturer.
After 30 days Amazon have no responsibility and you have to connect with Lenovo. Lenovo have a high rate call charge (0844)AND it's their decision if they decide the fault is yours or the laptop. If they decide its your fault you have to pay £44 postage + admin and pay for the repairs.
You also have to ring their preferred courier DPD who also have a high rate call charge. 35p a minute with my phone provider!
They have now taken the laptop and within 2 weeks we should hear the outcome. Lenovo don't take responsibility for saved data, so remember to back up.
The laptop is comparatively small & thin with a good screen and connections a plenty.
OK, it's not the fastest machine in the West, but I knew what cpu was in it when I ordered & for the price paid, it's very good value. The memory & hard drive size more than compensate for what some may describe as sluggishness.
Now Lenovo, like most laptop manufacturers, like to add-in what they believe to be helpful extra programs, most of which are bloatware pure & simply, but, unfortunately, in the case of Nitro Pro, this is more than bloatware & is directly responsible for stopping any updates being downloaded for Windows 8. Of course, if you are unable to update Windows 8, you cannot download Windows 8.1.
I wasted almost 2 days trying to get to the bottom of this problem, the solution being difficult to find on the internet, thanks to red-herrings & people who profess to be "experts".
In conclusion, the laptop is great. The bloatware is testing to say the least.
Just Upgraded to Windows 10 without a hitch. It has for sure been the most reliable and Fast Laptop that I have ever owned.
It's getting slower now, but again, that happens with them all, the more junk you put on them.
And the red one is (or was) cheaper still, so if you're not going to take it out, then it's a bargain!
