Beautiful screen, just a glass front with touch buttons on the frame to adjust brightness, volume, etc. Speaker bar below the screen is covered with a fine metal mesh. Timeless without extravagance. In the middle a small white diode decorates and only decorates the front view of the B520. It is not bright enough to illuminate the keyboard. Also the back view is well designed. The plastic case is brushed and in grey color so that it pretends to be noble metal. But this it does this pretty good. A metal grid covers the opening on top of the case, a good solution for the heat from inside to rise up outside.
Actually the six speaker have a clear sound and really produce a surround sound for media content. BUT here you can not have such a good sound as with a full sound system with a sub-woofer. Some tones make the speaker clank. I tested every volume setting to avoid this but with dissonant tones the outer speaker keep clanking.
Until now this machine smoothly performs all my applications satisfactory. It also keep silent when running demanding processes. When playing games and the video card have its turn then i notice a little roar behind the monitor and actually the monitor keep the machine noise behind itself. I didn't run the newest PC games, thus i have no experience with higher demands. But i think with the mobile graphic card in this PC its performance will not be comparable with real desktop GPUs.
During simple use (i.e. browsing through the Internet) the temperature of the CPU moves between 30 - 40 degrees. Only ca. 1.5 GB memory of the available 8 GB are in use.
When playing video games the temperature of both the CPU and GPU growth up around 60 degrees. My maximum demand of memory didn't exceed 2 GB considerable. So i still have a surplus for future applications.
Because Windows 7 uses all four cores of the CPU at any time i didn't observe it to start the turbo mode of the "i5 2320" when using only 2 cores.
The only think to do better next time for Lenovo is to equip this PC with a better graphic card - think of ASUS. This AIO has a real desktop CPU and i think a mobile GPU could be bottleneck.
I'm very impressed of this all-in-one (AIO). I was looking for a year and compared nearly every AIO on the market. At the end i bought this one.
It arrived promptly, set-up was a breeze and all seemed fine (though the Blu Ray player is just a player, and that is not made as clear as maybe it should be). Then it began to shut itself down, blue screen and all. He phoned the helpline and they told him to do a factory reset; this he did and the problem remained. By the time the helpline acknowledged that a factory reset was not going to do the trick and engineers needed to look at it the time window where one can deal with Amazon had closed and my father had to send it to Germany, to the vendor that Amazon are using for supplying these! They kept the PC a week and then sent it back claiming to have repaired it. Again it began to crash in just the same way, several times a day. He phoned them and they said to send it back to Germany again. This time they kept it for--wait for this--a month. There was no communication from them, they don't even acknowledge receipt of the pc when he sends it to them. As time passed he phoned the call centre to ask what was happening and they just told him they were waiting for a part and wouldn't give a return date. Eventually, after a month it was returned to him for the second time. A week later it began crashing once again. Amazon have now offered to replace.
Think hard. Lenovo have a good reputation for business laptops but their coustomer support in the UK for their consumer desktops is literally non-existent (it is in Germany). Moreover, one might think this could be a rogue machine, and therefore not indicative of Lenovo quality. However, it is as a matter of fact indicative of Lenovo support (terrible), customer service in the UK (terrible), and quality control (how could it be worse: Lenovo have had this PC in their repair centre in Germany for as long as my father has had it at home in the 3 months since he first took delivery of it, yet it still has precisely the same problem that Lenovo twice claim to have repaired). Ask yourself if you want to pay £1200 for this hassle.
Bad Points: Since you can all see the promo videos on YouTube ...
1. There is not HDMI in ... So I cannot connect my laptop to it to have a bigger screen
2. The wireless Card is not great. On a 50MB link I can only get 20MB on wireless even when 10 feet from the router
3. The system comes with one "C" Drive ... Madness since it is a 2TB Drive and if you want to back up the system partition you have to save to a separate drive ... I defragged the drive and shrunk the C Drive (100MB) and created a User D Drive
4. Touch screen sounds great ... but I have to admit it is a bit of a Fad, unless you are using it as a TV or Media Player
5. The keyboard and mouse takes a few seconds to wakeup after inactivity, this can be a bit annoying.
I would recommend this to someone who wants to use it as a Computer AND a TV ... if you are not bothered about the TV then there are cheaper systems you can buy.
At the time I bought it, December 2011, it was the best choice between quality and price (regarding All in One computers), still cheaper than the asus one.
Microphone could be better. Somotimes I get background noises (probably because the microphone is above the fan).
Anyway, I would suggest friends the purchase.
