To this point, we are most impressed by this Leicke power supply. The unit runs my Compaq laptop without excessive temperature. The supply also features a standard USB-A port together with a bespoke split / twin cable which terminates in an Apple (original type) connector and a Micro USB connector (suitable for things like Kindle / Samsung smart phones, etc). Very handy indeed.
Upon connection to mains power, the Voltage Display will blink, inviting you to press the Voltage button in order to incrementally change the output of the Laptop jack to cycle through 12v - 24v in 1v steps. Once the chosen voltage has been set, the display will remain on steady. At this point, further adjustment can only be made by pressing and holding the Voltage button for 3 secs (good idea, as it prevents accidental adjustment). My Compaq laptop requires 18.5v, but the Leicke only offers 1v increments, hence 4/5 stars rating. In practise, this is not too bad a problem, as the laptop seems happy to receive 18v or 19v. I have chosen to run it at 19v as this will run at lower Amps for any given Wattage (lower temperature). When reconnected to mains power, the device will "remember" its previously set output voltage.
The display also features a digital thermometer (which seems accurate), and very usefully features an Amp Meter. This latter display responds in real time and so you can see how your laptop consumes varying power depending on what tasks it is performing.Read more ›
I would like to thank LEICKE for their extraordinary customer care and concern over the faulty unit, and for the speedy replacement, you really do put your customers first. I therefore recommend LEICKE products, one of the nice touches is that they provide a USB charger outlet as well so you can charge your mobile phone or power another device whilst charging your laptop! Cool :)
Thanks for the superb service, I will be using you again soon.
Once this product arrived, I instantly binned the other charger. This one is far superior and works perfectly - charging quickly without messing around. My advice to anyone else is to spend a little bit of extra money to buy this charger and save yourself some hassle!
The adapter was well packed, the box was sturdy and well made.
It should be said it was Made in China, I think one of the reviews was saying that it was made in Germany.
It works well, the cable is long enough.
As to power consumption, I am using it with a T60 and a docking station.
I am measuring the power consumption using a Brennenstuhl power meter.
If the power brick is not connected to anything - the consumption is indeed 7.11 - 7.23 Watts.
If I connect my laptop and it is not running or in suspension, the power is still 0, WELL DONE.
I have a bit of an issue though. If there is some slight power drain, then the power adaptor
comes up and starts consuming the 7.something Watts.
E.g. Laptop off, in a docking station, no usb connected: 0 Watts. If I connect a lan cable - unfortunately 7 Watts again. If only a USB hub with mouse and keyboard is connected - 0. If I connect some other device (phone) again 7. Only LAN cable - again 7. Of course it only applies for Standby, not hibernation, not that my hibernation is again working on Linux Mint 14, I will use it instead.
I would prefer the cut-off to be slightly higer, although it is OK. I will use the adapter with the laptop and the docking station, plus a USB hub but without the lan cable connected, thus saving a bit over the year, without having to switch the socket off manually.
Very roughly, year-wise, a decent power adaptor will save me at least 38 Kilowatts (since I don't use the computer for on average 15 hours a day, times 365 times 7 Watts = 38325 Watts) times 0.12 p. on my tariff = 4.Read more ›
