Lazy mans' army lists and a reason to paint up actual units rather than the dodgy stand of this and two of that. I think 95% of the illustrations are straight lifts from osprey MAA titles, which is okay of you don't have these already. The lists are well set out (and researched) and give a reasonably balanced army. Like the rules, if you have historical armies and tactics you mostly get historical results.

Good survey of the armies of the period for those who play Fields Of Glory: in each case with army lists, a brief commentary and some photos/illustrations. This is of great value to those who own the rules but correspondingly not of great use to the general reader.

An essential book for anyone wishing to play FOG. As the title suggests this book covers Imperial Rome and her various enemies. Excellent production from Slitherine.
