I cranked this on for my daily commute this morning to work, its the first outing its had since I gave it a few whirls shortly after its release in 2013 when I bought it, so its safe to say Artillery are not up their when it comes to my "necessary listening bands", they are however a band to be respected in that I bought Terror Squad in 1987 and if you are still listening even sporadically to a band some 29 years later then that is well earned respect in my book, so anyway onto Legions - For those that know Artillery Legions will showcase a new singer and drummer, I have to admit the vocals is not my cup of tea, however the vocals of When Death Comes and My Blood weren't for me either, it seems Artillery as a band feel their brand of melodic thrash is best fronted with a singer more akin to power metal, that being said there is no denying the riffage on offer is first class and that is what makes me come back for more (now and then) and in truth its what will make me part with my hard earned £ to buy Penalty by Perception once its available, also and this is just a separate thought, By Inheritance is regarded and in my opinion rightly so as somewhat of an old school thrash masterpiece and I would strongly recommend new fans of Artillery to check that 1990 release out

HASH(0x8f9671a4) out of 5 stars This Legion is lacking vocal firepower. 25 Nov. 2013
By PeaceSells215 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
From the earliest days Artillery has been one of my favorite bands. They are obscure and hardly popular which has always been a mystery to me as the play a brand of thrash metal that has no equal. From "Fear Of Tomorrow" to "My Blood" and even "Legions" I've always respected and recommended this band.

So...why the three star review? I will say, its not the riffs. As the Stutzers put on an amazing riff fest as usual. The bass, well its hardly audible from the double onslaught of riffs do to the brothers. The new drummer...not too bad but, he can't come close to replacing the classic Carsten Nielsen who has By Inheritance and Terror Squad on his metal resume. But the performance isn't horrible. The main problem I have, is the lead vocals. I like power metal, I really do. And Michael Dahl's old band "Ripe" does receive some musical fame from my home stereo system. BUT...it saddens me to say he doesn't match this brand of metal. At some points his range is so high that its almost cheesy and unbearable to listen to. His voice doesn't seem to even match the incredible riffs the Stutzers are cranking out. (speaking of that, the riff from "Chill My Bones, Burn My Flesh" is amazing.)

Overall, Legions isn't a bad album. The production does have a few good moments more than it does bad. The riffs are great with that middle eastern vibe as usual. The bass, hardly audible except in a few select points of the tracks. Drums...not as good as the past but still good. And the new lead vocalist...he's good, just not as good for Artillery. I recommend this to old fans. But if you are new to the band check Terror Squad, By Inheritance, or even When Death Comes.

HASH(0x8fd70d38) out of 5 stars Much better than "My Blood" 8 Dec. 2013

This CD is a marked improvement over the last, which was a surprisingly boring Artillery release. I preferred Soren over the new singer (though nothing compares to Flemming in his prime) but he does on ok job. Overall a solid record.

HASH(0x8fb65d2c) out of 5 stars Great release by the Danes 5 Jan. 2015

I have listened to Legions from the beginning to the very end many times now and I am still coming back to it. I guess it's an easy listen and it brings positive energy. The music is what I call consistent & diverse - it has the solid core - the sound you can easily recognize but there is a tremendous amount of variation within each song.

Legions also has a nice balance between vocals, guitars and drums. The vocals are superb and the overall production is exceptional - way cleaner than on previous releases. What I find especially interesting and rather unique is how the band switches between fast and slow tempo repeatedly within a single song.

While certainly sounding original you can pick out influences of Megadeth (a good thing in my opinion). Overall, a great release by the Danes. Recommended.

This band is awesome! I found this artist while listening to aol radio.
I only heard one song, but that's all it took for me to buy the whole cd.
Great guitars, good drums and powerful vocals!
I read some of the other reviews of this band and they have a new singer on this cd.
I think the new singer is awesome!
If you like hard music, you'll love this band!
