Animated fantasy sequel featuring the vocal talents of Kelsey Grammer, James Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. Not long after returning to her native Kansas from her previous adventure, Dorothy (voice of Lea Michele) is whisked back to Oz by her friends Tin Man (Grammer), Scarecrow (Aykroyd) and Cowardly Lion (Belushi), to help save the land from the troublesome Jester (Martin Short). Being the brother of the Wicked Witch of the West, Jester is seeking to avenge her death by casting darkness over Oz and holding its leaders captive. Can Dorothy and her old friends save the day once again?
Okay... So it may not be anywhere near as good as any pixar film. In some ways it comes across quite amateurish. Not every animation company has the financial backing to create the most lush rendered 3D animation. You've got to start somewhere right? The story leaves a lot to be desired, but easy for kids to follow. It's a kids film after all! The characters are well developed, some original ideas here. Being a generic rehash of other oz films, be prepared for similarities, I wouldn't go as far as saying it is a "ripoff" more of a homage to other Oz films. The music is fantastic in this film though, I personally prefer the songs to Disneys Frozen. I think if it had the right funding it could have been a massive contender at the boxoffice! I give this four stars for being an all round decent kids film with beautiful music and easy flowing storyline. Just don't expect too much from it and you may find you'll like it.
In this animation Dorothy returns to Oz to rescue it from the fool that has taken over the land. The wicked witch turned her brother into a jester who has her broomstick and controls the "fuzzy evolutionary rejects" or Flying Monkeys. Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion have become almost stooge like with the Tin Man being overly melodramatic.
Dorothy's fame allows her to skirt the law and get special favors. She is aided by an obese owl, a marshmallow law enforcement officer, a conceited china doll princess, and an old tree who wants to die.
The humor is geared to kids. It does not have that clever duo meaning so adults can enjoy the film on a different level.
Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return Movie caught the attention of my husband and I because we both like watching fantasy animated movies. The movie centers around the character of Dorothy being summoned to return to Oz by her friends the Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow after a character who styles himself as Jester takes over the land of Oz. The Jester is the brother of the Wicked Witch of The West who is ends up getting stuck with wearing the outfit (no matter how many times he peels it off) due his sister putting a spell on him. He is even shown in the trailer peeling off the outfit, which only reveals different colors of the jester outfit as he tries to take them off. On a side note, my husband actually saw the misunderstood side of the Jester’s character as acting out through more of the influence of his sister’s spell rather than what he would do through his own volition. The plot of the movie becomes even more developed when the Jester manages to get the Queen of Oz to his castle. Regardless, Legends Of Oz: Dorothy Returns movie is best for those who like colorful animated films.
