Just such a book is this- whatever you need to know-flies, knots, tackle, methods, fish, water (Fresh-salt-warm-inland)-
Hey , Lefty knows it- he puts it down! You get the book- you will know it too!
I've been fly fishing for a few years now and have finally decided to get serious about the sport. When I went looking for a resource that I could use to expand on the many skills needed to properly learn to fly fish, this book was the best I could find. After reading it, I'm really quite happy I did. It filled in so many pieces of the sport that I was unfamiliar with (or doing wrong) and added new skills and/or knowledge to those areas I was already familiar with.
I agree with other reviewers that say this book is somewhat of a rehashing of the author's other books. I own two other books of his - Fishing Knots and Advanced Fly Fishing Techniques Second Edition. Both of these books cover certain aspects in greater detail - knots in Fishing Knots and some advanced techniques of fly fishing in the other - that are not covered or not covered in as much detail in Lefty's Ultimate Guide to Fly Fishing. I suspect some or even a lot of repetition is bound to occur when one person writes multiple books on different aspects of the same topic. This book is his complete guide to all aspects of the sport. If you want to go into greater detail on any particular aspect of the sport, the author has a number of books that will do exactly that. Just be sure to check the glossary to make sure the other book you buy does include additional material before you buy it.
The bottom line is, Lefty Kreh pioneered much of what the sport is today. There are very few people that can offer as much knowledge as what Lefty has to share and in terms that are as easy to understand as how Lefty shares it with the reader.
