I was pleased with this purchase. The book was as described and the delivery was good considering that it came from Canada.

HASH(0x9e107c6c) out of 5 stars eye of the beholder 7 Mar. 2005
By Mark time - Published on
Format: Hardcover
This book is a compendium of the information that Lefty Kreh has imparted by books and talks at angling shows over his career. Whether this book is useful to you depends on how many of his previous books you have purchased. Much of what appears in this book has been published in some form before. If you don't have any of Lefty's books, by all means get this one. If you have read one or more of his books, a lot of the information in this one will look familiar.

Every once in a while there is an expert who, through years of trial and error and effort-gains lots of knowledge about his area of interest- Such a man is Lefty Kreh- and then- sometimes he puts it all into one book-and makes it available to us neophytes-and WE WIN!
Just such a book is this- whatever you need to know-flies, knots, tackle, methods, fish, water (Fresh-salt-warm-inland)-
Hey , Lefty knows it- he puts it down! You get the book- you will know it too!
HASH(0x99d0f078) out of 5 stars The ultimate fly fishing reference book 2 Mar. 2013

This is a great book for the beginner to intermediate level person who wants to learn about fly fishing. It covers so many aspects of the sport so well that it could easily be used as a reference manual to refer back to again and again.

I've been fly fishing for a few years now and have finally decided to get serious about the sport. When I went looking for a resource that I could use to expand on the many skills needed to properly learn to fly fish, this book was the best I could find. After reading it, I'm really quite happy I did. It filled in so many pieces of the sport that I was unfamiliar with (or doing wrong) and added new skills and/or knowledge to those areas I was already familiar with.

I agree with other reviewers that say this book is somewhat of a rehashing of the author's other books. I own two other books of his - Fishing Knots and Advanced Fly Fishing Techniques Second Edition. Both of these books cover certain aspects in greater detail - knots in Fishing Knots and some advanced techniques of fly fishing in the other - that are not covered or not covered in as much detail in Lefty's Ultimate Guide to Fly Fishing. I suspect some or even a lot of repetition is bound to occur when one person writes multiple books on different aspects of the same topic. This book is his complete guide to all aspects of the sport. If you want to go into greater detail on any particular aspect of the sport, the author has a number of books that will do exactly that. Just be sure to check the glossary to make sure the other book you buy does include additional material before you buy it.

The bottom line is, Lefty Kreh pioneered much of what the sport is today. There are very few people that can offer as much knowledge as what Lefty has to share and in terms that are as easy to understand as how Lefty shares it with the reader.

A collection of Lefty Kreh's articles on a wide variety of fly fishing topics. Somewhat uneven as he sometimes spends a lot of time on a seemingly small issue and other time it seems like he does not say enough on some major issue. A large book with many topics. Many insights for the beginner as well as expert .All in all quite useful.

Lefty Kreh writes well and this is an excellent book. If I had purchased it before several others I could have saved myself some duplication. However since I purchased this last it is the duplicate.
