Gave a completely new aspect to the "Wild West"concept we inherit from childhood movies.
Had to read it twice to appreciate the hardships this generation had to endure, and to understand the basic clash of cultures between the impoverished Indians and the ever advancing pioneers taking over "their" lands.
Small isolated descriptions of incidents give reality to the account.

A product of its time, this book is purely factual and I didn't find it particularly gripping. It didn't flow well at times, but then the author was simply relating their experiences, not writing for 'the public'. Interesting, but no more than that.

This book was a rip off as there were very few chapters & poor descriptions as to what happened even though the heroine was very young if a story is to be told tell a bit more than can be found for free on line.

very moving book, with detailed descriptions of what it must have been like to be part of a pioneering family, it also made me anti the native american indians, which actually quite upset me to begin with, as I always felt it was them that had been wronged.

As a factual account I found this book interesting, but obviously short. I would like to know what happened to her in later life
