There is a decent storyline here with a not so shocking twist.
Nikki moves to California after her mom does. She moves in with her aunt, whom she had never met before. Then she meets Zack who is recovering from the death of his best friend and girlfriend.
Overall, the story was decent. It was just so predictable. Even the main surprise was predictable from the first chapter.

Was a sweet read bit just felt maybe it was a bit too young for me? Didn't like his relationship with emails either tbh. But would def recommend but not to anyone over 25 as being 30 it was all a bit too slow burn for me xx

When I started reading this book I didn’t realise it was a YA romance. The leading lovers are only teenagers, but as I thought that this was an introductory period before leaping some years into the future, I continued reading. The plot does move 3 years ahead during the final chapter, but this story is definitely a teen romance. That said, the emotional turmoil and drama leading lovers Zack and Nikki experience is enough to leave someone far more mature defeated.

Both Zack and Nikki are grieving for the loss of a loved one, but Zack’s grief causes him to act hot and cold around Nikki. He doesn’t want to acknowledge his attraction to her, feeling guilty for finding happiness with someone else so soon after his girlfriend’s death. Nikki in turn is trying to uncover the mystery surrounding her adoptive twin sister; a mystery that ends in heartbreak and misunderstandings.

It wasn’t a shock to find out who Nikki’s sister was; I guessed it within the first few chapters and was proven right as the plot unfolded. That said, this is an entertaining read with a sweet romance. Zack and Nikki both remain believable despite the more outrageous moments in the plot, and prove young love can be strong, passionate and resilient. 3½ stars

This is a story told by two characters. In Texas, Nikki is a seventeen year old who, on her mother's death, learns that she has both a sister and an aunt she'd never known about.
In California, Zack, also seventeen and captain of the football team, feels that his relationship with Emily, captain of the cheerleaders, is falling apart after eight years of closeness.
When Nikki travels to California in search of answere she meets Zack. Their story is one of tragedy, loss, romance and discovery. A good read.

Author collaborations can go one of two ways, and in this case I am pleased to say that Left Behind is a triumph!

The story encompasses the full spectrum of human emotions showing what life is like when you are touched by not only unfathomable tragedy but also the sheer elation that can be found in the arms of someone who fills your heart with not only love but hope.

The story flits between Nikki and Zack and we get their separate stories before we eventually get to read about them together.

We find Nikki having just buried her mother, fresh in the realisation that she is finally alone in the world with no one but her best friend Ash.

Being that she is not yet 18 years old, it looks inevitable that Child Services will step in and find her a foster home, but fate deals her a new hand when she unexpectedly discovers that she not only has an Aunt she never knew about but that she has a sister – a twin no less.

Well, let the hunt begin, because this young lady has a game plan now and nothing will deter her. A move to California to live with her Aunt is just the beginning of the changes that she can see in her future.

Zack has been through the mill, losing the girl that he had loved from the age of nine, he has been struggling to deal with not only the guilt that she has gone but the fact that he needs to get back into the land of the living and face not only his family but both his and Emily’s friends.

Running was always his thing, his way to zone out and be alone with his thoughts but when after 6 months he happens to see a face he recognises from the track he is stunned by how much that one person makes him truly begin to feel again.

This is the first book these authors have written in the Young Adult category and I must say that I was enthralled from the beginning to the end. Despite the fact that I don’t usually read books aimed at this market, I found this read unputdownable, and highly recommendable for all age groups.

The first thing that caught my attention was the style of writing. If any of you are familiar with these authors, you’ll be taken by surprise. Many sentences are short, even jerky; however, it works to perfection. I really liked how each chapter was told from each of the protagonists’ point of view, too. So how did I feel about these two adorable characters? Well, I fell for them at the drop of a hat! I sobbed my heart out with them, for them. So get a man-size handkerchief ready folks, because you’re going to need it.

Two stories are blended together at a very fast pace. Firstly, we are introduced to Nikki who lives in a trailer (caravan). She knows she can’t stay there, she has no-one. Even though she’s only seventeen, she’s extremely mature her age. Life has been a rough ride, a cruel one. She’s had no choice but to grow up quickly as circumstances were beyond her control. Utterly sad for the loss of someone dear doesn't make her bitter though. Never fear! She is very fortunate in having an especially close relationship with Ashley, her best friend. I loved Ashley’s personality. A little quirky, quick off the mark and very loving towards Nikki. Nikki makes a discovery which will change her life forever. Not only does she discover that she has an aunt in California, but also someone else who could fill the void.
