Dieses Buch handelt von den Atombomben in Deutschland, denn kein Land war so sehr als atomares Schlachtfeld vorgesehen, keines so vollgestopft mit nuklearen Sprengköpfen wie das geteilte Deutschland im Kalten Krieg. Und der Albtraum ist nicht vorbei: noch immer lagern in der Eifel Atombomben, noch immer wird erwartet, dass deutsche Soldaten sie im Kriegsfall mit ihren Tornado-Jagdbombern abwerfen. In der angespannten Weltlage kehrt das Gespenst der atomaren Abschreckung  zurück. In Deutschland wurde mit der Entdeckung der Kernspaltung die Grundlage dafür gelegt, deutsche Wissenschaftler begannen, für Adolf Hitler daraus eine Bombe zu machen, deutsche Exilanten schafften es dann in den USA. Die Stationierung von Atomwaffen auf deutschem Boden wurde zu einer der großen Konflikte der Nachkriegszeit. Auch in der überschaubaren Zukunft wird Deutschland an der nuklearen Teilhabe festhalten, die Atombomben werden modernisiert.

Werner Sonne worked for German broadcaster ARD for over 40 years as a radio and TV correspondent. During his time in Bonn and Berlin he covered all German governments since the seventies and was also based in Washington D.C. and in the former Eastern bloc in Poland, and had assignments in Moscow. He started to travel the Middle East extensively in 1973 when he reported on the Yom Kippur War in Israel and kept returning to the frontlines of the troubled region, including the Afghanistan conflict. From 2004 to 2012, he was the host for ARD's Morgenmagazin show from Berlin. Since then, he's written about foreign and security policy for daily newspapers and magazines as well as non-fiction books on similar topics. He's also the author of several political thrillers and historical novels.
