“Love? Your name is Trudy Love?
And my sister calls you Tru, so your name is Tru Love?
Are you $**ttin' me or is that your real name?”
That was... well, intense. Tragic and beautiful, sweet and sexy. One woman's journey through soul-breaking heartbreak, learning how to live again and the man who loves her and shows her how. This was the first book I've read from R.D. Cole and for me it was insta-love. There was so much pain, from so many different people, but the underlying story was how love, family and friends can heal all wounds with a little bit of time and patience, as long as you let it. Sadly some people can't be reached in time and that is the real tragedy.
“Tru, look at me. You were beautiful before I knew all this, but now you're the strongest and most beautiful woman I've ever met. I'm in awe of how you've overcome the $**t life has thrown at you.”
Trudy Love has had to handle more in life than any one person should and that was before suffering a loss that would destroy most people- but she refuses to let it break her. Taking care of herself is all she's ever known, so she picks herself up, heads off to Alabama to attend college and attempts to put her life back together. But there is a fine line between existing and living and one look into a pair of gold-flecked brown eyes that seems eerily familiar tells her how very afraid she is of crossing back over that line.
“there is something about her. I don't know. She's crazy hot, but it's something more than that. I feel like I need to know more about her.”
Jaxon Coleman knows the minute his eyes connect with Tru's that his life will never be the same. Sure she stunning and he wants he like no other, but it's more than that. One look in her eyes tells him she has had her share of heartbreak and he wants nothing more than to help her live her life and to take care of her. He knows getting her to trust him will take some time and a whole lotta work, but everything worth having is worth fighting for.
“I know you have secrets, and I know you don't trust easily. I also know that you are mine, and I want to know everything about you.”
And just when you think things couldn't get more complicated- manipulative ex's, desperate cougars, and demons from the past all work to keep these two apart. Will Tru ever get to a point in her life where she just feels safe and loved?
“whatever happens in life helps make us who we're meant to be and leads us to people we're meant to meet.”
So many characters to love in this book and some that will break your heart. Benji stole a little piece of me, the entire Coleman clan made me wanna move into my kindle with them, David cracked me up, Mason & Cohen were just the cutest, Jaxon was just sooo sweet and damn sexy, but Tru owned me. So strong, so resilient and beautiful, I just loved her. Cannot wait to see where this series takes me next, hope my heart can take it.
“If something would have happened to you...
...I wouldn't be strong enough to make it without you. I love you so damn much, Tru, and I know this might be fast for you, but you're my forever.”
Happy Reading xo Jenn @ Bookworm Betties
The story of Trudy Love and by the way what a fabulous name, was so compelling and makes you realise what goes on in some peoples life's. R.D. Cole bought this to life brilliantly. I loved it when Jax came on board and was hoping and praying all was going to end as I wanted it to, I won't spoil it, anyway the story flowed beautifully, couldn't fault it I loved Jax's family and his character and personality really shone through and everything else too..!! Honestly this is a must read you will not be disappointed, I've just downloaded learning to Heal.
Jax is a great character, the kind of man every woman should meet. Loyal and honourable to a fault, even if he is a little possessive.
Although I enjoyed their story, it is typical of this genre....girl meets boy. Girl has trust issues and they dance around one another.
The secondary characters are great though and I could easily read Mason and Jazz's stories, as well as David and Elle's - if there is one.
If you're looking for hot and steamy, this isn't the book for you. What you will get, however, is a sweet story, where you wait to see whether love can conquer all.
