Also it assumes you know your way around the unity software, so watch a tutorial on the unity website that runs you through everything before doing this.
As is always the case when learning a new programming language, immersion is key, but this is a nice start for people.
For me as a self-taught amateur with some experience (I'm looking to transition from Android Studio) the first half of the book didn't really introduce anything new to me and the platformer tutorial feels short, superficial and doesnt offer anything the free unity tutorials don't
In short the book if you have some experience of programming give this a miss. Otherwise I imagine this would be a decent starting point but the first half is very theoretical and a little dry.
Edit:
On further reflection the author doesn't explain much of the code and leaves the reader to try to decipher it using the Unity documentation.
The book is still useful if you know a bit of C# already but is not so good if you are a beginner to programming.
Worth a look if you want to learn c#.
