Still as valid today as when it was written!
When I was approached by Dorling Kindersley to create this book, I was really excited about the whole concept behind the series. Not only were they trying to cover a wide range of popular sports and enable readers to do what the title says, but they had a dramatically new approach. We first decided on the content of each of the double-page spreads, then spent several weeks shooting all the photos and creating all the drawings, and only then did I sit down to write the words. The brief was very specific, and the result is a book which has translated easily into almost a dozen different langauge versions. The most rewarding thing for me is the fact that I've seen the book everywhere from the shelves in a French supermarket to the chart table of a yacht in Hong Kong Harbour, and I hope it continues to enthuse people for years. Enjoy it, and e-mail me with your comments!

As I like the book so much for reference purposes I bought another one recently. I know it's really for dinghy sailing but I've progressed to yachts which are easier to sail and the principles are the same.
I really like the book and all that have borrowed it have too. There are plenty of really good diagrams.
All in all an excellent book.
