I personly have discover I'm no relation to Ginger Rogers and would of benefitted greatly from having a floor plan for some of the harder dances. The photographs do little to help you see where your feet should go. The C.D is very uses full for timing but doesn't go on for long enough. if your a natural on the dance floor this book is for you however if you have two left feet I suggest a D.V.D!
I've recently started ballroom and latin lessons (3 weeks into it), and 90% the things I've learnt so far are contained within this book, and there's nothing in the way of advanced moves in here. The descriptions are reasonably clear, though I wish they had foot maps for everything. Used in conjunction with ballroom lessons, this will really help you to work on your technique and basic steps. For advanced movements there are better books (Alex Moore's 'ballroom dancing' for example). This is a broader book with more styles of dance, but aimed at beginner's.
A bit of a disappointment, not nearly practical enough, and not the best book for a dance beginner.
I bought this to supplement my ballroom dancing lessons, as I never seem to progress. The tips in here, especially counting beats, really helped.
It's not much use if you are already a good dancer, but for beginners that are learning the basic ballroom dances it is perfect.
Covers the 4 most common ballroom and 4 most common latin dances
