It is now five months later and the second liner has split in exactly the same place as the first one, and because it is now out of warranty it is going to cost me £150 for a new liner, so if it carries on like this it will cost me £150 every year to keep the spa working. It certainly looks like a design fault which in my opinion people need to know about. Still much cheaper than the £3,000 plus solid ones, but an ongoing expense.
And to top it all,i got an additional 6 months extended warranty as well.
Easy to setup, the spa pump is used to inflate the liner. I added ptfe tape to the connections before first use. The power cable has a built in RCD for safety.
The instructions state to change the water every couple of days, I did this weekly to cut down on the chemicals required. Takes about four hours to drain so purchased a drill powered pump which cuts it down to less than an hour. Filling from a garden hose takes a couple of hours. The water temperature on filling starts about 14C and heats 1.5-2c per hour. You need to change the filter daily (these are washed with a garden hose and reusable but only last two weeks after that you will see the difference in the water clarity). Comes with a chemical floater for chlorine tablets or granules can be put straight into the water. If using the granules put the bubbles on to circulate them.
Using the bubbles will decrease the water temperature by a couple of degrees Celsius. We initially set the temperature at 40 but on the warm nights we had in June and July we cut it down to 38.
The base is padded and comfortable to sit in. You won't want to get out. Really fits three, four if they're close friends or slim.
We even started getting up early to jump in the tub before work and then again at night. In colder weather the water temperature drops quickly so running costs are much higher. I have put it away now until spring and boy is it missed.
Costs about £10 per week to run. Filters last two weeks (less than £2 each).
Overall well worth the money. Can't wait for spring to get it unpacked.
We put the hot tub on the decking outside with a gazebo to provide shelter - so relaxing sitting in the tub with the rain pelting down around you. Don't tell your friends or family when you get one or you'll never get rid of them!!!
Go buy one, you won't regret it, just wonder why you didn't get one sooner.
The inside has stayed very clean and is like new.
The leatheroid cover for the main body is in great condition but the lid has mould spots which will not go away no matter how hard I clean it. I dried it best I could before storage and they look horrible as it's a light colour.
The only bad point is the clips and straps for securing the lid on. The material which attaches the clips haasnt survived very well. Three have snapped now and the lid doesn't fasten on properly. Once these get wet and dry and again and again the material becomes very weak and the just snap. To replace these meas sowing on new straps to the body cover and lid cover. This will be the last year I use this one and will replace with the Miami version as I need a slightly smaller one due to moving it's location.
Also, this will not run off of a extension lead unless rated above 10amps. Mine kept tripping out so I fitted an external socket.
Clean the filters in the sink with boiling water and a dishwasher tablet to save money too.
Myself, my wife and my Children spent the entire Summer last year and much of the Autumn as well in this Spa, it really is a fantastic piece of kit.
The setup is simple as long as it is on fairly flat ground, (I used some padded gym floor mats) it also takes about an hour to fill from my garden hose about and a further 24 hours to get to full temperature which in the Summer might be too hot:)
I cleaned my filter every day under the hose pipe, (remove all the dirt and debris from the pool as well) I changed the filter every two weeks(some say water changed monthly or more but I generally got two weeks) I tended to deflate the spa and drain the water straight into the sewer but for others I would set aside a few hours the Lay-z-spa way.
I also used smelling crystals with the spa which adds to the experience but reduces water life and the whole treatment and sanitation is straight forward as long as you follow the instructions. (I would refrain from buying cheap chlorine and stick with the branded variety as it can be a dangerous substance:)
The bubbles in the spa are cool and rather powerful but the bubbles do reduce the temperature of the spa because the heater switches off.
The spa is an amazing investment for those looking for that spa feeling at home, however the only down side is being careful not to puncture the spa because once it is punctured its pretty much end of life, (as mine is), for this I have given four stars and I have now purchased the Monaco so I get double room due to the walls being thin.
Fantastic investment but be careful not to puncture it....
