Riley was the daughter Regina a beautiful woman that was loved by two men who would be best friends for life however when she chose to marry Rhys the two men had separated, Buck did’nt resent them their happiness but could not bear to see what he could never have.
Regina had died three days after giving birth to Riley and Rhys had put all of his time and effort into bounty hunting, she had been raised by her grandmother and grandfather seeing very little of her father, believing this was because she reminded him that she was the cause of her mother’s death.
When Rhys had been shot in the back by Lance one of the outlaws he was following his best friend Buck had taken over finding Lance so that he could find justice for his deceased friend, unfortunately Buck was also killed at the same time. Riley now has only her grandparents left and they were not getting any younger however also loosing them both in a fire was heart rendering and then she discovered that she had been appointed an unknown guardian.
Neither Sheriff Jim nor Riley were pleased with this arrangement they had both believed that they were individual and that they were responsible for their own lives however the fact that she was a very wealthy woman meant that Buck had wanted her kept safe until she was twenty-one or married.
However, no one could have ever foreseen that in fact Jim would find himself falling in love with his ward and Riley was not expecting to fall in love with the beautiful and previously unknown creature.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

The plot will have the unthinking happening. Riley’s grandparents will be killed in a fire, leaving her a ward of the Marshall and then he will be killed in a shootout. Now twenty-eight-year-old Jim Ward will be awarded the guardianship of an eighteen-year-old girl he has never met. Now Riley Prescott will find herself grieving the loss of her two grandparents that has raised her, to having no home and no family. Learning from her father’s attorney that she now must move to the town of Harmony and for the next three years dealing with a guardian, one who also has control over who she can court and marry, all because of her father and the money he left behind.
“Harmony may just be the fresh start she needed, but only if she could free herself from Mr. Jim Wade and live by her own rules.”
The word is out that Riley Prescott is coming to Harmony and the train station is overrun with single young men wanted to catch a site of her. Riley is overwhelmed by everything, and having no idea what to expect of her new guardian, assumes him to be a man the age of her father. Seeing a handsome man waiting, she will make eye contact with him and feels tingles of lust. But she plans to convince Jim Wade to envoke a clause in the paperwork so she can back to where she has lived. What a shock to discover her new guardian is none other than the man who she eyed when leaving the train.
“I didn’t want to run roughshod over you, but you give me no choice. It’s quite simple. I’m the guardian. You’re the ward. That means I give the orders and you obey, got it?”
The story is full of loss, grief, angst, attitude, confusion, and two people feeling an instant attraction towards one another, but both trying to fight it. Jim is a natural dominant who expects obedience, and when it doesn’t happen, he isn’t afraid to spank Riley. Riley is so confused by what she is feeling, even after his dominance and discipline. Everything she thought that would happen, isn’t working out.
When young men in town start approaching Jim about courting Riley, it sets him off, and there is no man worthy of her, but is that because of them, or him? He hasn’t thought much of marrying, much less having the responsibility of a ward, but he feels protective of her, and when she asks him what she should call him, and throws out Daddy in the mix, he likes it. But the feelings he has isn’t parental all it, it is a man who wants a woman in every carnal way imaginable.
“Jim, you don’t have to look any further than in the mirror. You’re a good honest man.”
The story will have danger and suspense, with kidnapping and rescue. There are explicit sex scenes, dirty talking, and several spankings. The chemistry between Jim and Riley sizzles off the pages as they argue, flirt, and become intimate. Will Jim and Riley acknowledge the feelings for one another or will he remain her guardian and keep her safe?
The story flowed really well with a nice mix of romance, mystery and suspense. The author pulled me in from the beginning and the story stayed strong right through the end. I've read a few books from this author and look forward to reading more from her in the future.
