The first motion lamp was designed in 1963 by an English engineer, Edward Craven Walker, who marketed it under the name Astro Lamp. In 1965, two American entrepreneurs saw the Astro lamp displayed at a trade show in Brussels, bought the rights to market the lamp worldwide and formed the Lava Corporation in Chicago. The Astro Lamp was renamed the Lava Lamp and an icon was born.Watch the different-sized formations of melted wax collide, flow, and split apart as they ooze their way up and down the glass globe. Provides relaxing, soft light , 25 watt light bulb included. Plugs into a power outlet.

First, the wax is not black, it is a very dark red. Second, the light is also not white, it is very yellow. Mixing the two makes the wax BROWN and the whole thing looks awful in my look.
It literally looks like there is s*** in the lamp going up and down.
To add to this, the lamp bulb stopped working after 3 days - I now need to buy a new one!
Would not recommend at all.
The reviews on colour nearly put me off! - mine is a damson colour at the bottom when lit - however it is black from the top as the lava cools.
Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. It's a good quality lamp & excellent value for money.
Silver base and top are reasonably good quality - aluminium. Unfortunately the main part - bottle containing fluid and wax lets it down. The black wax is OK, but the fluid is certainly not clear - nowhere near it. Looks cloudy with a slight yellowish tinge. I'm not at all fussed about the amount of light, or indeed using the l=amp as a light source - it was the effect I was looking for. Not as it would appear in the above picture or on the packaging - disappointing, and for that reason I'd give only 2 stars !!!
I wished I paid more & got better.
The wax in the picture is black & the light looks white, that isn't correct.
The wax is dark purple, I dislike this & the bulb is more yellow than white.
Disgusted in my opinion in the way the photo is compared to the lamp itself.
