Reading a few pages of this book should be enough to discourage even a half-literate reader. The grammatical errors are astonishing, but even had they been cleaned up we would be left with wooden prose, cliches, and a plot that is too trite to recount without blushing. Obviously Geoffrey Hill the poet didn't write this. Even if he claimed he had, I wouldn't believe him.

I can't believe anyone is taking this rubbish seriously. This just has to be the product of vanity publishing. I carried on after page one simply because I didn't believe the prose style, grammar, descriptive powers could get any worse.I was wrong.

Format: Paperback
I bought the book wondering if this was really the 'Geoffrey Hill' - the wonderful poet of the Mercian Hymns, of Tenebrae, of Canaan. I could be wrong, but unless Hill has suddenly given up all he has ever stood for - meticulous proofing, spelling, etc., or this is a joke whose nature I have yet to fathom, this is not by him but by someone else of that name. The blurb alone and the author bio at the back are error-ridden (who's for whose, realisticly for the proper thing) and a glance inside confirmed the appalling level of proof-reading, style and grasp of language. The plot summary is - there is no other word for it - naff. One suspects this is vanity press publishing. Don't waste your money.
