Product Description

Special Limited Deluxe Collector s Edition / First time on CD / Fully remastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / Classic Southern Rock / 12 page full colour booklet 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and new interview with Johnny Van Zant and band . IT HAS been said that the commercial demise of southern rock began with Lynyrd Skynyrd s tragic airplane crash in 1977, which killed two members of the band, including frontman Ronnie Van Zant. It was a sad time for the genre for sure, but a handful of acts kept the confederate flag flying, refusing to succumb to such desolate times. Best news of all was that two members of the Van Zant family rose to the challenge of survival by firing up some of their best work; namely .38 Special s Donnie Van Zant and little bro Johnny, of the self monikered Johnny Van Zant Band. Last Of The Wild Ones , originally issued in 1982, was the JVZ Band s third studio album and finds the them returning to a more authentic sound, a style in keeping with their highly praised debut album, paying less heed to commerciality and more attention to traditional 70s style southern rock. It also marked the return of veteran producer Al Kooper, a man who not only discovered, signed and produced Skynyd but also sat behind the recording desk of the debut JVZ Band album. Sharper, more concise and rougher around the edges than their second album, Last Of The Wild Ones takes no prisoners, leaping out of the speakers all guns blazing. With brother Donnie co-writing half the album, this is truly a joining of forces and a serious statement of intent.

Thank you for continuing to write and sing music for "one people" as the Jamaicans say. I have followed music and used it in my life to get through hard times. Children are still interested in instruments and learning sheet music in every way. They would come over and listen to it and want to play it in different music tunes from different instruments. How cool is that. Too bad it is being taken away from schools like physical education. This album could be listened too like Bob Marley. Even though they are from elderly musicians, they are still respected by the younger generation, as well as the older ones who know their history. good for Musicians who try and break away and do solos. They are still respected by people (like us). I will speak for those that have come over and asked for the sheet music. Try the CD's. I like reading the words and the ( RAISON D'ÊTRE ) for the song. Music is still an inspiration. This CD was well worth listening and sharing to those that are interested in musical history.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Southern Hard Rock! 25 May 2013

The Johnny Van-Zant band was a great example of Southern Hard Rock in the 1980's. They offered plenty of musical talent, very good song writing, and they came across as "genuine" in their material! This particular album was one of their best! I have in record, and I'm glad I can now enjoy it on CD! Fans of Thirty Eight Special or Lynyrd Skynyrd in the post Ronnie Van-Zant era, would most likely enjoy this CD! I think the best songs on this release are The title track Last of the Wild Ones, Still Hold On,
Can't Live Without Your Love, and It's You. The music offers strong rhythm and the guitars offer plenty of tone and licks that really stand out! Enjoy!

Excellent hard rock / melodic rock CD This one is the last one of the original bands recordings I just picked up after almost 30 years.
I personally feel his best works were his 4th and 5th albums Van Zant and Brickyard Road. The bottomline ... if you like hard edged melodic hard rock. you will not be disappointed with this one. This album demonstrating what was to come on the following two albums. I got this one a few weeks ago and I am still listening to it everyday cruising in my car. 5 stars
