The Last of Us really was a triumph of what developers could create if they put their mind to it. Crucially the developers weren't pushed into rushing the game and as such when it did arrive on PS3 it was exactly as they intended. In my book the PS3 version even to this day remains one of the best games going and is certainly in my top 10 games ever.
So what is The Last of US? It's a Third person based, role playing adventure/horror game. You must survive in post apocalyptic America where a mutated fungus has taken hold and infected virtually everyone. It's edge of the seat stuff from beginning to end and really does showcase how good games can be!
Rather than waffling on and going into the ins and outs of everything in the game I simply want to say a few things about the differences between the PS3 and PS4 versions. While I wouldn't necessarily say it's worth upgrading to the next gen version if you still own a copy of the PS3 edition, as the PS3 edition was truly brilliant in itself. Be in no doubt that the graphics do look better with better textures and indeed the frame rate clearly running at a higher level (60 frames a second) and you can tell that simply by the fight scenes and shootouts as they run smoother on screen with no screen lag or graphical shudder (there wasn't exactly a lot of that in the PS3 edition but now it's completely gone).Read more ›
I originally owned this on PS3 and played it through twice, considering it one of the best gaming experiences I had ever had. I recently had the chance to get this digitally in a mid week sale and jumped at the chance to get the game and play its expansion (Left Behind) for the first time.
The game plays out as a third person action game in which you play as Joel, a survivor tasked to see his young charge Elly safely into the hands of others and it evoked memories of "The Road" for me as they made their way across this ruined world facing horrific foes both human and otherwise. The relationship that develops between the two and their development as characters is brilliantly written and something games rarely achieve... believable characters who you truly care about come the end. Their journey is so beautifully written.
I've now played the game a third time and also played the DLC and I think I love this game more than ever. It might well be my all time favourite.
This game was the very best PS3 had to offer for me and has now jumped ahead as the very best on PS4. The game looks lovely and benefits from the additional power of PS4 to be presented in 1080P, it plays great and it has two of the best characters I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
This is a gem, miss it at your peril.
For a remastered ps3 game this is visually lovely. However the way the story drags you in is a credit to the brilliant writers.
Even if you had it on ps3 like me it's still worth another play through on the 4.
Quite simply I was a little skeptical that this game could be as good as all the reviews claimed. Call it age, but I find most games just arent as good as they used to be these days. Favoring graphics over actual gameplay and story. For the record I'm 31 years old, and my ps4 gets more use from the mrs watching netflix than me actually playing it.
This game changed all that. It really IS everything everyone has claimed. From the first five minutes the story had me completely gripped. I spent the next week finding myself playing this game at every chance I got. Even the mrs ended up watching me just play this game as she was enjoying the storyline. It's simple small things that this game does that makes you care about the characters and events more than you'd expect. It can be tricky at parts, but somehow this doesnt put you off. You just keep plugging away until you figure out a better tactic.
If like me you never had a ps3 so missed this game. You MUST buy it. You wont regret it.
