It is difficult for me to be objective because although I read widely in genre, I am not by nature a sci-fi, dark, or paranormal fan. Why then should I leave a review? I have read sci-fi, dark and paranormal in recent months and found myself drawn into the story without effort. Unfortunately, this story did not touch me in the same way.
For me personally, the characters didn’t work and the imagery on occasion was vague, but these are areas where I must feel an affinity with the story, and on this occasion it didn’t happen.
The plot is good, and so too is the writing. Good use is made of language, thoughts and dialogue. Even the occasions when the text changes from regular to italic, it is considered and used with care. If you are a fan of the paranormal this story may appeal to you, and I would like to reiterate that it is well written, but it didn’t connect with me personally.
by Richard Alan
The Last Train is a thoroughly enjoyable read which gives the reader a multitude of facets to explore. Jake is a well-written character and you feel an instant connection with him as he seeks to reunite with love Bernadette.
The mix of fantasy, adventure, angels and demons craft a super tale with amazing plot twists. Fantasy fans will highly enjoy this book and life-after-death has never had so many laughs!
It is a great novella, gripping and funny with the essence of love - one not to miss!
A brilliant and clever piece of writing from Alan. Certainly, an author to look out for in the future.

Strangely, we just happened to cancel our own 25th Anniversary rail trip; in fact, we were supposed to leave yesterday, the day I finished reading this eBook and now I’m wondering whether my beloved husband would have gone through all the trouble Jake went through. If you like books about Heaven, filled with various types of angels, embark on The Last Train, because you’ll like it.
Overall a well written and engaging story.
I'm not sure in which genre I would place it, paranormal, romance and comedy, regardless what genre, it was a great read.
I would recommend anyone looking for a quick fun and unique read to consider The Last Train.
A terrible train accident takes Jake’s life in a flash. His deep seeded love and concern for his wife Bernadette, leaves Jake’s lost soul in torment to the point where he has to go back and find her.
Author Alan’s unique writing style will captivate reader as Jake journey’s back to earth. With a blend of fantasy adventure, Heavenly Angels, demons, unconventional love and much humor the reader will be drawn into rooting for Jake to succeed.
You will have to read the story to appreciate the journey on the last train ride.
I recommend this book.
Well this book quite surprised me I must say. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was
pleasantly surprised by the humour and the clever use of literary devices.
The subject matter is as old as…well life and death I guess! I have seldom read a more engaging tale of riding on the death train. The story is told in such a light and humorous way that one finds delight in what might otherwise be a grim ride.
Essentially this is a romantic comedy. Jake’s love for Bernadette transcends all things. Life is found in death. As is humour found in horror.
I can highly recommend this wonderful story. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy.
You’ll need something to read on the train, won’t you?
