HASH(0x8b1e3a98) out of 5 stars Rare Insight Into Zionism's Fascism 30 May 2008
By JZ52 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
"The Last Resistance" provides an excellent insight into the plight of the Palestinians and the fascist tendencies of Israel's Zionists. God is not a real estate agent and to use the bible as escrow papers claiming a chunk of real estate defies all logic in the 21st century. Especially when taken into consideration that the bible was written by Jews and as such carries an extremely biased view of all outsiders, this arguement is one made of sand. The partioning of Palestine in 1947 was one of the greatest acts of hubris in the 20th century. Rose's exploration of a people who have suffered 60 years of ethnic cleansing and occupation is incitful and well written. It is a breath of fresh air to get an unbiased account of a people who have suffered untold privations at the hands of a brutal victimizer who falsely claims to be the victim in this equation.

HASH(0x8ae9eb34) out of 5 stars Misreading the Israeli reality 24 Sept. 2007
By Shalom Freedman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This work is another anti- Israel diatribe from one of the major organizers of the British academic boycott of Israel's institutions of higher learning. Rose's expertise is in psychoanalysis and literature but she apparently has never really examined her own tendencies to rationalization and equivocation. In one telling bit of bogus defense she falsely compares Yehudah Amichai's sympathetic understanding of a Palestinian shopkeeper with M. Darwish's stereotypical misreading of an Israeli soldier. In this misreading Darwish brings out the old canard, that the Jew's connection with the Holy Land is 'superficial'. There is in short no ability to understand the deep Biblical , historical, religious connection of the Jewish people to the land of Israel. In a not wholly unfavorable review of this book in the 'Independent' Julia Pascal concludes, "More shaky is Rose's analysis of suicide bombers. She writes that those seeking the 72 virgins in Paradise desire "more a sacred utopia, a late, exalted compensation for the wretched of the earth, than a second shot at worldly pleasures". Even though she is a Freudian, she desexualises the fantasy of a martyrs' paradise and romanticises the young men who desire it. She does not ask what happens to the women who live under sharia law, or what Islamic heaven might be for female suicide bombers. She cannot ask these questions; it would threaten her whole thesis."
