I did feel sorry for Daisy and how isolated she felt and in particular when she did find a friend that she was ok with the girl not being as nice as she could have been to Daisy and all because she was so grateful for someone. Nick and his stoicism and brittle way of communicating with people brings a delightful element of humour and of course at the heart of it- the story of how these two can love each other so fiercely adds that beautiful romantic bubble.
For such a short book Jen and Jessica manage to compress a good dramatic storyline involving domestic abuse, intrigue, the social obstacles of college and learning to just accept yourself with a heavy dose of sex and violence threw in. It's a fantastic book especially if you are already fans of this hit man series but it might not be for you if you haven't already been introduced to our intrepid and rather odd couple however I would completely recommend going and reading the first book.
Daisy and Nick go to college. Daisy yearns to make friends and gets so obsessive that she lets this weird girl use her by copying her notes down. They try to fit in, have a party which leaves me wincing for them but also shaking my head - they have a tv at home and a compute, can they not do any research beforehand?! They keep saying they don't know anything but yet Daisy knows things such as a carpet cleaner?!
I understand this story is more or less a continuation of Last Hit, so appreciate it, but would have also loved a bit more story to it as well.
It was endearing to see this pair try to deal with the social niceties of life. Trying their hardest to fit into a norm that is so far from what they have previously known and to adapt to the life they have now.
Friends are hard to come by as Daisy is discovering , she is being dealt a wide berth by the others at college but understanding why is playing on her mind? But when she eventually finds someone willing to talk to her, she discovers that getting a friend was the easy part, learning to trust is even harder.
But when a new friend arouses suspicion, Nick is determined to find out what their story is. He is super alert when it comes to the fact that Daisy may be even in the slightest of danger and he will stop at nothing to protect her. But his addiction and determination may just have brought trouble to their door and put her in their line of fire.
Daisy is devoted to Nick, it is so sweet that this girl has the love of a guy that will stop at nothing to protect her.
If you loved Nick and Daisy previously you will adore this chance to catch up with them again, the story is an absolute winner, beautifully told with fantastic dialogue and characters and the most exquisite attention to detail.
This peek behind the HEA is worth every minute you will spend reading it.
I loved the characters, Nick and Daisy, and found their somewhat unconventional love affair beguiling.
The plot moved along at a fair pace whilst touching on serious issues - domestic abuse, paranoia and social skills (or rather the lack of them).
Nick and Daisy are proof that we become the people we are because of our upbringing.
I enjoyed the book very much and will now do what I should have done to begin with....read Hitman 1! (Yes, I was confused in places....my fault entirely!)
I received an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.
