About the Author

"New York Times" and "USA Today "bestselling author Jessica Clare writes erotic contemporary romance, including the Billionaire Boys Club novels and the Bluebonnet novels. She also writes under two other pen names. As Jessica Sims, she writes fun, sexy shifter paranormals. She also has a third pen name, because three is more fun than two. As Jill Myles, she writes a little bit of everything, from sexy, comedic urban fantasy to fairy tales gone wrong. She lives in a teeny tiny town in North Texas that has no Starbucks, which is a cruel and unusual punishment. She spends her time with her husband, pets, and Keurig. Because, coffee.
Jen Frederick is the "USA Today" bestselling author of the Woodlands series as well as the Hitman series. She lives with her husband, child, and one rambunctious dog. She's been reading stories all her life but never imagined writing one of her own.

This is the story of two people who were both brought up on the boundaries of society. Nikolai lived on the streets as a child, taken in by a violent gang and trained to kill. Daisy whose mother was murdered has been living a life controlled by her father. That is till she escapes.

Daisy manages to find a room in a run down apartment building, but the freedom from her former life outweighs her less than salubrious surroundings. What Daisy doesn't know is that she has caught the eye of the man living in the building oposite. Nikolai is drawn to Daisy and watches her whenever possible. He manages to engineer a meeting with her, and things move forward between them from there.

A fascinating and compellingly written romance that is quite different from my normal romance books. Nikolai is a cold blooded killer. He kills for money, and unlike tattooed heroes in other books his have a meaning to those who know what to look for. They tell his story. Daisy has zero experience of men, at 21 she's never even been kissed. Nikolai struggles with what Daisy's reaction will be to what he does. But it's not long before it intrudes and puts them both in danger. There are some scenes other readers might find are not for them, mainly violence. But this is an engrossing story with well drawn characters.

If you love a hero all dark and brooding, tatted up, and rough, but still a man in need of love, then you ought to love Nick. Yes, his character is both villain and hero, but that is what I love most about him. Nick would kill to have you, kill to keep you, and kill to protect you. He's so sexy and raw, brutal and harsh; a man whose actions are dark and whose heart feels unworthy and tainted, but a man willing to do anything for the woman he loves.

Nick is ruthless and lethal, but he's also completely and helplessly in love with the heroine. For me, there is almost nothing better than that. Seeing a dark hero fall in love, wanting it all, but thinking he deserves nothing good or kind in life. And why would he? He's a hard man who's lived a hard, uncompromising life. A Ukrainian boy taken in and raised by a Russian crime family, trained to be a killer for hire. Now, in his early twenties, he's still being shaped by that world and that code of conduct, but then he meets Daisy on an American assignment, and that's all it takes for his cold, needy heart to thaw.

To Nick, Daisy is all that is good in the world, and all that his own world is lacking. A sweet, virginal heroine and a dark hero willing to crush anyone who hurts his woman. I loved how much he wanted the heroine. He really needed her and wanted to be loved by her. He was so gentle with her and patient, too. A hard, rough man being loving and sweet in his own way. Very good to read.

Dual POV; some sweet and sexy moments; a little action with some danger and violence; and a complete romance and happiness for h/H. The book does leave off with two other characters very much in play for the next book in the series. Another dark hero for that one as well, probably even darker than Nick.

Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick have combined their writing prowess to come up with this great novel about love winning out over " Russian Mafia " evil. They take a believable young innocent and a brooding "hit man" and create a story of steamy sex and intrigue. Once started I couldn't leave the story alone. I'm glad there's no "cliff hanger" just a follow up book which is a must after this story. Can't recommend this book too highly. Get in and get swept along in this exciting story.

After reading the summary for the plot of Last Hit, I was really hoping it lived up to my expectations! - thank goodness, expectations were not only met, but exceeded as well!!! I REALLY enjoyed this book. I was especially impressed with the style/manner in which the character of Nikolai was written. The book was co- written by two female authors, and I am intrigued to know which one of the two authors wrote Nikolai's POV in the story. His character was captured so imaginatively, and despite he's chose of 'profession', he was written with unassuming quality. And ingeniously, Nikolai had a witty sense of humour that was depicted in an unintentional way, which made me laugh out loud on many occasion!!!
The story had a very good pace to it and successfully managed to move through the story without any unwanted diversion or lull to the plot.

A thoroughly good read and a well deserved 5 stars!

Although a bit slow to start I did eventually get into it. Such a beautiful story and Daisy and Nick were simply adorable in their own way. The only reasons I have given this four stars is because 1. It ended rather abruptly, I felt there could have been more about how they settled down, an epilogue would have been nice, and 2. I wasn't really into the Russian storyline, couldn't quite grasp it at times. On the whole though, a lovely read and I am definitely going to read about Daniel and Regan.

I really liked the way this was written, especially the slightly off grammar used from Nick' s point of view, something like that usually gets forgotten as the book goes on but it was steady throughout. I thought Daisy' s naivety and self awareness of the fact was sweet and felt truthful and his brutality wasn't swept under the rug when they got together but you feel their struggle to deal with it in the context of their relationship.
