Format: Perfect Paperback
Classic Vargas policier, featuring the intuitive Commissaire Adamsberg, once more among a bunch of credulous nutters, this time in a Normandy village rather than his usual Paris beat. Who cares if the plot is bonkers, just enjoy the characters and the atmosphere.

My copy was rather poorly printed, with the tops of letters and accents almost invisible in places, and as I'm not a native French speaker, I could have done without that. I didn't open my copy until six months after I'd bought it or I'd have asked for it to be exchanged - I recommend you check your copy immediately.

If you can read this book you can navigate Amazon.fr and order it there, where it's considerably cheaper, even with delivery. Just log in with your usual email address and password.

When an old woman suddenly dies and bread crumbs are choking the drainpipe, who can solve the crime? Adamsberg. When Mohammed Skinhead, whose hobby is setting fire to the cars of the rich, collides with a family rich as creosote, who alone can see his innocence? Adamsberg. When a vile child is fishing for pigeons, who will find him? Adamsberg. And when, in a Normandy 200 kilometres and 500 years from Paris, a medieval cavalry detachment is storming off with evildoers to the ninth circle of hell, who alone (or at least with the help of tiger boy, Mr Clever, the dimwit and the goddess) (and if he can spare the time from shovelling clouds around) will find the truth?

This may be the loopiest of the Adamsberg novels, but it is certainly the most entertaining.

like the one with the vampire storyline (which wasn't so great actually) here she veers again towards the realm of myths - maybe her new thing? I read it more for the characters anyway - Adamsberg, his new son, Danglard, the tigered meche... let's see what comes next.
