Methinks some people are perhaps never satisfied. I have waited literally years for this, and Timeless Video have not let me down. Yes, I know the prints aren't quite mint, but boy, have I seen worse?? Yes, I have. The prints here are perfectly watchable and the price thru Amazon is excellent (I would have paid more). The whole season 1 is here in, I reckon, the best available quality. Just lets be grateful and enjoy one of the best western series ever. (perhaps in fairness I should say I have only had time to check 3 random eps, but they were all OK). Now, where is series 2?? Mind you, 31 eps will take some time, so no hurry Timeless V...

Timeless Media Group presents "LARAMIE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON" (1959 min/B&W) -- Starring John Smith (as Slim Sherman), Robert Fuller as (Jess Harper), Hoagy Carmichael (as Jonesy) and Robert Crawford, Jr. (as Andy Sherman).

Directed by some of the great B-Western directors:
Lesley Selander, Joseph Kane, Francis D. Lyon, Thomas Carr, a very impressive list.

The jest of the series is about two brothers and a drifter who come together to run a stagecoach stop for the Great Central Overland Mail. Laramie is an American Western television series aired on NBC from 1959 to 1963. The series ran for four seasons and is considered by some to be one of the best family-oriented westerns of its time.

The two lead characters actually "worked" on the ranch. They chopped wood, cooked, washed dishes, washed clothes, fed chickens, repaired roofs and did all the chores necessary to running a ranch. This aspect added an authenticity to the lead roles that you didn't see in other series - which was unique for it's time.

Hoagy Carmichael decided not to return after the first season, the weekly filming was too demanding. Spring Byington and Dennis Holmes joined the cast as Miss Daisy Cooper and Mike Williams as the third season began.

Special footnote: -- The main musical theme, written by Cyril J. Mockridge, also was used as the main theme in the 1945 film, "Thunderhead~Son of Flicka". (featuring Roddy McDowall and Preston Foster).

Very reasonable and a good value for the price --- For product description and editorial review check this out on the Amazon site above my review.

Timeless Media Group do not seem to be able to get a decent print of 'Laramie'. The first series is in black and white ( not colour as stated on Amazon ), so I think it fares a little better than the colour episodes. TMG have done what they can with it, but it still looks like an old black and white movie in need of some restoration. I'd rate it about 8 out of 10, maybe a little more.
Despite this, the first season was probably the best, as the cast included Robert Crawford Jr. as Slim Sherman's 14-year-old brother Andy and Hoagy Carmichael as Jonesy who did the cooking and cleaning and generally looked after things when the others were away. Surprisingly, both were written out of the series after Season 1, with Andy going off to boarding school in St. Louis, Missouri, although Robert Crawford Jr. still appeared in a few episodes of Season 2.
What is now bothering me is the price being put on these dvd boxed sets. They seem to be getting higher and higher! Fortunately, this set can be obtained much cheaper elsewhere.

I recently bought the first season of Laramie. I last saw the series on danish tv when I was about 9-10 years old.
It was great to watch it again after 45 years. I was right back there with my kidsize hat and gunbelt.
It's still a good show with both violence and exitement, but never over the limit. I can recommend it to both grown-ups and children.
Granted the picture quality could be better but it is great to see anyway. Now I have to get the colour seasons too!

TMG are to be congratulated for releasing so many classic tv westerns.Look on their website to discover what a rich variety of long lost, classic shows they have made available to the public. It is wonderful to see this show available. It is witty, moving, thrilling and entertaining, all that makes a classic western show. The only let down is the picture quality.Out of all the TMG sets i have, this is the poorest quality. It is still very watchable, but the picture quality pales in comparison to the virginian, wagon train,or the many other box sets i have.Gripes aside, well done tMG for releasing this and long may you continue to bring classic television westerns to the fans who want to watch them.

5 stars for the series, but realistically 4 stars overall as the copies are not up to the standards set by say "gunsmoke" or "the untouchables". Nevertheless worth having for a western fan, and overall very acceptable.

I Havent seen this series since the early 1960s, as a 10 year old, it is have some reviewers have said abit Grainy in Black and White BUT it is brilliant, still Stacks up against, Rawhide, The Virginian and some of the period Movies, so much so, I bought Season Two!, well worth alook if you like Great Westerns.
