ok, ill admit i only bought this because i fancy henry chapman rotten, but once you get past the base instincts this is a very useful little book for anyone interested in the future of archaeology- because lets face it the days of digging (much) stuff up are limited. Its certainly not a book for the general reader but for current (and ex like me) archaeologists its a way to peak into the techno-babble of geosciences that often confuses us! His language (although scholarly) is not obtuse, and the slimness of the volume means it isnt scary (try reading some of the behomoths ive started and not finished).

Plus buying it means he can get some razor blades and cut off that silly beard hes trying to grow. A plus all round i think!

A jargon-free and easily read book, but really only scratching the surface. Suitable as an introductory text, with lots of colourful drawings and pictures. If you are truly interested in learning about GIS in archaeology I would suggest Gillings and Wheatleys "bible" instead.

HASH(0x9529be88) out of 5 stars A must have for landscape archaeologists 23 Feb. 2016

Although the examples in this book are from England, the content is succinctly presented. It is a must-have for anyone interested in landscape archaeology, settlement patterns and the application of GIS beyond just mapping. I have read several archaeology/GIS books. This one is the less "technical" and includes relevant cultural geography theory.
