Well researched and written with enthusiasm and great attention to detail, this colourful guide is an essential companion if you're planning a trip to the Lake District with the kids. It's packed with useful tips for keeping all ages happy and has some excellent suggestions for places to visit, accommodation and where to eat.

Before we had kids my wife and I used to go to the Lakes fairly often but we hadn't been back since the kids were born. Now our twins are 7 we thought it was time to revisit so bought this book to try to help with finding information that would be useful.
I feel I must disagree with the last 2 reviews. It may well have information on places to go but you could get that by visiting any tourist information centre in the lakes and talking to the staff and/or picking up leaflets. Yes, it also gives information on places to eat but they are generally cafes etc that shut at 5. If you are staying for the week then where do you have your evening meal?
However the biggest problem I have with this book as it just doesn't cover the major towns. Are you visiting Keswick, Windermere or Bowness on Windermere? They don't even exist according to this book! Ambleside gets a mere 3 pages to describe it!

Nicely organised and presented, with sensible family suggestions, and some hidden gems that we'd not heard of before. If in North Lakes then Talkin Tarn highly recommended. Super canoeing on the tarn, pleasant walks around it, cheap parking by Lake District standards.Good delivery speed and packaging.
