Product description

Product Description

This is the debut album that started it all. Produced by the renowned team of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, showcasing all of the Boston singer's great vocal talents, this album is available on CD, and brings back the initial flair of that unforgettable era. The debut album of America's definitive Disco Queen, whose music is considered an essential part of the soundtrack to the 1970s and 1980s. First released in 1974, and featuring the hit singles The Hostage and Lady Of The Night . Produced and composed by the hit writing team of Euro Disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. Expertly remastered. Superb sound.

About the Artist

The heartbeat of disco stopped beating on the 17th May 2012, with the announcement of the loss of one of the great American singers of her generation. With millions of records sold worldwide, dozens of international hit singles and celebrated live shows all over the world, Donna Summer was well and truly established as the Queen of Disco in the mid-1970s. It was while she was working as a session singer that she met European synthesiser pioneer and songwriter Giorgio Moroder, and embarked on a collaboration that would bring her worldwide success and establish a trademark disco sound.

Donna Summer's little known first album gets a very belated worldwide release. Only ever availible in a few European Countries in the mid- seventies, it has long since been unavailible. Preceding the groundbreaking 'Love to love you baby' by roughly a year, this set finds the Summer/Moroder/Bellotte team feeling their way through 9 EuroPop tunes some of which would have been at home in a Eurovision Song Contest of the time, theres no 'Disco' here!. However Donna lets rip and shows off her ability on a few treasures, 'Wounded', 'Friends' and 'Born to die'. While not a great album, it is a must for diehard Summer fans. However, with the short running time and the notable exclusion of a track from the original release, the company could have included two same period singles('Virgin Mary' and 'Denver dream', both which have been long overdue for a CD issue) to fill out the CD and make it a more wonderful and exciting for the fans.

Recorded prior to the Love To Love You Baby album, Lady Of The Night has more of a rockier feel. There isn't a bad track on the album. Just a shame that the Virgin Mary single was not included first time around or has been included on this reissue as a bonus.

It's good to finally have this on cd. The songs have various styles and different from what was to follow. This was the year before love to love you baby brought her international success. I would say the strongest tracks are lady of the night and the hostage, but there are some other nice tracks. If you're a Donna fan you should have this in your collection and hear how it all began!
