Fifi (Fiona) hides alot of pain behind a lovable, chipper and witty facade that only highlights her inner foundation of quiet strength and kindness. Whereas the attentive Rory is a highly capable, if emotionally scarred officer (turned Earl), with no tolerance for nonsense or the evasive. Together their allure and attraction is dazzlingly immediate. With a smidge of steam, a whole lot of romantic gallantry to melt the heart, endearingly sweet intimacy and wit and enough insecurities and challenges to make the couple relatable, all makes this story one engaging read that will quite literally capture your heart. Furthermore, the resurfacing of a brutal event and parental torments will quite literally cast a shadow and ruin over the pair's hopes of a happy blissful future together and make you question whether their love will be powerful enough to overcome such past tragedy and bitterness? I must say it was well worth the read to find out!!
Overall, there was always so much going on in this story yet it interlinks and flows beautifully to produce a marvellous setup for a great series and a fun and moving tale in it's own right!! I await the rest of the series with anticipated relish as each relationship, hinted at in this book, promises to be filled with mystery and mischief galore. Alluding at the happy outcome of many a clandestine meeting or endearingly blundering love affair that has blossomed from past histories, instanteous attraction and chemistry.
Book 2 already on preorder; Can't wait to find out what really happened between Mary and Bridges!!
Can you fall in love at first sight…twice…with the same man?
Six years ago Lady Fiona Chastain went to a masquerade & fell in love & arrange a meeting only for the man not to appear. Now she’s to go to her Aunt's and Uncle's May Day Frolic to brighten her dull existence. When her coach breaks down and the man who rescues her is the very one she's yearned for these past six years, she's angry with him for his dismissal of her. Still she falls for his easy charm. Then she learns his name and she’s appalled that his family is among her father’s enemies. Dashing, tender Rory Fletcher, the Earl of Charlton, is one of the men on her father's blacklist
This is the first in a new series & what a fun entertaining read it was, I read it in a sitting. I loved both Rory & Fifi who fell for each other six years ago but then meet again & find the spark is still there. The road to their HEA was strewn with obstacles from misunderstandings to vents involving their parents. The moral of the story has to be if you need glasses wear them!! Fast paced with delightful characters & it made an afternoon in lockdown fly by
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
It is a lovely fast-paced story that will have you running the gamut of emotions. You will be sad at some points especially where Fiona and Rory's parents are concerned. The reason why the latter shouldn't fall in love or think of a future together is quite the tear-jerker. Rory and Fiona are so perfect together, the attraction is immediate, the romance that blossoms is darling. But when they find out the reason both of their families wouldn't want them to marry will they part? Or will they be able to push past the family history and make happier memories for the families? There were some lovely lighthearted moments, ones to make you smile and laugh, and of course beautiful romantic moments!
I love Rory and Fiona. Fiona has so much to deal with and it was lovely to see her being able to let her hair down a little and enjoy the wonderful attention that Rory paid her. As for the latter, what a perfect hero. The way he looks after her when he finds her with a sprained ankle and how he carries her everywhere is so romantic. He wants to look after her both at the start of the story and when the proverbial hits the fan. Their love story made me smile and I am smiling as I write this review. I loved their story and I look forward to the next book in the series where we read more about Lady Mary who we meet in this book.
This was an enjoyable read that I finished in a day. The story moved along at a good pace and had likeable characters. Lady Fiona ( Fifi) meets Rory, Earl of Charlton on her way to a houseparty. Fife hasn’t had an easy home life with her parents. Fife and Rory are very attracted to each other but there is some reason that Fifi’s father had the name Carlton on a black list. What had happened between the families? There are a number of secrets to be revealed before a happy ending can be achieved. I received a copy and have voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This novella is the introduction story in a new series, where a group of friends will find their lasting love.
Fiona and Rory missed their chance a few years back when she mistook him for someone else and him did not recognize her after a lovely encounter during a masquerade party.
Now, years later, it is instant recognition. And while life did go on, and there might be many hurdles standing between them, both are very decided to not loose the second chance at love.
At no moment there is doubt about their fast and deep attachment, it is more the past that come between them, one they do not know but weight heavily on their families’ history.
This story is a fast paced one as once they are reunited Rory refuses to let go of Fiona. She is the one woman he wants and nothing will make him sway his opinion. Yet, the shadows from their past is what might daunt their feelings.
I loved Rory, once he is assured his sentiments are returned, he won’t back down, he goes for the win and Fiona’s heart he will win. While he is full of understanding, he also knows who he wants more in his life.
Fiona has learned to hide herself to avoid her family’s wrath, still she longs to be seen and Rory is the first to really see her. She does not want to merely exist, she wants to be and with him, she is.
Their romance is so sweet, one of healing and forgiveness as both carry their father’s deeds.
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
This fast-paced story is filled with emotion, drama, secrets. There are also some lighthearted and romantic moments between Rory and Fiona. Getting to know these two delightful people made me root for their happily ever after. Wrapped up in the sweet love story and discovering what caused the trouble between the families, I could not put this book down. There are several interesting side stories (other stories in the series?). I enjoyed this one and happily recommend it.
These two main characters are well-developed and very likable. The story flowed smoothly and ends very happily as a romance should. I look forward to the next book in the series.
