This four disc set is described as being a complete set of all the songs and poems in The Lord of the Rings, not including The Hobbit, set to music.
The Tolkien Ensemble have produced a masterpiece in more than one way.
First, from a technical point of view, the songs are expertly arranged, with beautiful voice and accompaniment in all songs. The inclusion, and cooperation with, Sir Christopher Lee as "Narrator" creates an atmosphere of mystery in all the songs he is present in - Sir Christopher narrates all songs that are not seen directed to be songs or poems by the text, he also provides the voice of Treebeard in songs including "The Long List of the Ents" and "Treebeard's Song".
Secondly, from a Middle-Earth perspective, the Tolkien Ensemble have captured the tone of these songs perfectly, and have taken the context of the songs into account, instead of producing them as straight-songs. This adds depth to the collection that would otherwise be absent.
I highly recommend this collection to any Tolkien fan, whether you are a die-hard fan or a casual reader.
