I think this is a brilliant bluetooth speaker. Compact, easily portable design which packs a real lunch, escpecially when the bass boost is activated. Tried it with various styles of music - classical, baroque, country and pop/rock and all sound crystal clear with a good dynamic range from the higher to the lower frequencies.

Mine arrived charged up which I discovered when I pressed the on/off switch. It immediately went into pairing mode. Found it on my phone within 30 seconds and paired it up. Into my music collection and within a minute I was playing music. Very fast and very easy to set up.

The circular shape (it does have a slightly pointed front edge which houses the light) means that it delivers sound in all directions so everyone has the chance to hear it loud and clear.

Lasts very well on a single charge. And charges up steadily enough.

My only minor issue is that the charging port is on the base of the unit to you either have to hang it up by the included strap or lay it on its side or upside down. As I say this is a minor issue in what seems to me to be a high quality, nicely designed product at a very competitive price.

Can't really fault the design or functionality.
As it says in the product information:
Portable- you can use this anywhere, and it has a vaguely handy strap (although most likely to be carried in a back pack or suitcase)
Claims to be splash proof, although I haven't experimented! Guess for use near a swimming pool or the seaside.
360 sound - this is neat - you place the speaker in the middle of the space and the sound appears good in all directions
Good quality sound with plenty of bass
In theory the battery lasts 12 hours before needing recharging - haven't tested that yet...
It is about 7 inches high, in a near black style

There are three 'S' qualities I look for in a Bluetooth speaker -- style, size and sound -- and this LG PH4 scores well in two but falls short in one. The style is great, it's an unusual fabric coated cylinder with rubberised end caps that incorporate the controls and, behind a rubber waterproof flap, a jack connector for line input and the micro-USB port for recharging. The fabric appears to be well bonded to the surface of the PH4 and isn't loose anywhere, although it's applied slightly skew-whiff (if you look closely enough). There's an elasticated strap down one side that’s permanently fixed at one end and clipped on at the other. It's great for slipping your hand inside and keeps the PH4 secure as you carry it around, or you can use it to hang the speaker while you're listening. The teardrop shape and overall size make it very easy and comfortable to carry too, it sits in your hand very nicely, so this is a speaker that you'll probably take places. The water resistance should make it reasonably weatherproof (I haven't put this to serious test yet) although I wonder how grubby the fabric might get if it's regularly dampened. It does bear a striking resemblance to Logitech's UE BOOM speakers and maybe trying to be a slightly refined version of that - or maybe it's just a bit of a rip-off…

Along the point edge of the teardrop profile is an LED-illuminated strip which light up when the speaker is switched on, giving a soft blue-white glow. It flashes during Bluetooth pairing (and there's a switchable constant flashing mode which is quite annoying) but it doesn't respond to the music or change colour.Read more ›

This is a really great looking speaker which has clearly been designed for outdoor use and travelling. It's well built and feels sturdy. I'm never afraid of throwing it into a bag to go out and about.

All the buttons are integrated into the flat soft touch rubberised top and bottom surfaces (actually there is no top / bottom it can stand on its top bottom or lie on either side).

Top buttons are: power / volume up / volume down / Bluetooth.

Bottom buttons are to turn the bass on / off and to turn the small LED strip light on / off. There's a built in rubber cap that you pop off to charge it up or plug in an auxiliary wire.

Bluetooth connects quickly first time and I've not experienced any problems with connectivity dropping out.

The elasticated looped strap is tight and the metal clip for the strap is strong, meaning you can confidently attach the speaker to a bag or anything else you want to hook it on to. I like how tidily it clips on to the speaker as it could look a bit messy if it were a loose strap.

The white LED strip light can be either on, off, or constantly blinking. It's not particularly bright but looks attractive and is bright enough to locate something on the floor if you dropped it.

It goes up to a decent volume, and on the whole sound quality is pretty good. It can seem slightly muffled with certain types of music but I think for dance music (my fave) it sounds pretty good!

Without the bass button turned on it sounds a bit hollow but it kicks out a bit of bass with it switched on. Admittedly not quite as loud or bassy as my Creative soundblaster speaker.Read more ›
