If you have received this and wondering how to use this without having to flick through the amount of leaflets, here you go.
Open the box and take out the CD.
plug drive into computer using the cable provided
Once CD is inside, it`ll ask you to install it. (Follow onscreen instructions), once installation has finished, remove CD.
You`re good to go.
One thing which struck me immediately was that I really had to press the set up disc into the drive; I was used to either a computer disc slot or a standard CD/DVD tray, so this took me by surprise. Imagine you are replacing the disc in its jewel case and you'll get the idea! It would have been helpful to have that in the instructions, perhaps.
Having said that, the drive works well with DVDs and CDs; but I have a lot of data discs and the loading is interminable - if it ever gets there at all!
So, if you want a neat, light, easy to use unit to play films and CDs, this is certainly extremely good value for money; but if you are intending to read data discs - just make yourself coffee and sandwiches before you start!
plugged straight in literally worked instantly flawless out of the box i like it!

plugged straight in literally worked instantly flawless out of the box i like it!
In an office environment the noise is barely worthy of comment. I can hear it when focused towards it but it's no louder, certainly quieter than many, integral optical drives in tower PC's I've heard. Sat on my desk I didn't detect any vibration through the desk at all, I was expecting this to be noticeable. This surprised me as I expected the drive to be noisier and cause more vibration without the attenuation of a PC case.
It has a relatively attractive appearance with nicely curved lines and a white glossy finish to the top, left and rear with a matt stone effect the the front, right and bottom. The glossy finish has picked up some scratches but it's just dropped in a box to float around. An all over rough finish may be more durable but less attractive. Tucked in a laptop bag pocket it'll be just fine and you'll barely notice it.
It powers up instantly on plug in with no delay in ejecting the drawer for use.
Last use it's copied nearly 4GB to my HD in around 12 mins and I'm happy enough with that speed.
I haven't tried writing to disk yet but I'd expect that to be as noisy as an integrated drive.
In short. For read only tasks this is as quiet as an integrated drive. Any additional bulk and weight is hardly noticeable so it now travels with the PC all the time, just in case, with no detriment for a small initial outlay.
All in all though I’m happy with mine.
