BUT, months later, I regret that I have to add some caveats.
This player has now started to have hiccups, every 5 minutes or so. The sound disappears for about two seconds and then reappears. This may not appear to be a big problem, but I assure that it becomes remarkably annoying after a bit. Nothing whatever is wrong with the discs or connections. At least there is no loud noise associated with this fault.
The other serious complaint that I now have is that the display covers the position in the current track but not the track number and, again, this is a problem that becomes more and more annoying.
I stress that, while the unit is not hiccuping, the sound is FANTASTIC, so no complaints there. However, I have decided to give up on this player and move to one made by a company which has been in the DVD/CD business for a very long time, yes, Sony. So the LG will now join failed loudspeakers, amplifiers and reproduction kit in my store room.
Sorry, LG, but you have not got this product right, even if the sound is beyond reproach.
Okay, so it's predominately plastic and a bit, shall we say, flimsy. The mains lead is a little short too.
But for double the price the picture quality is unbeatable (we use the YUV connection) and the audio (2 channel) is equally as good. If you're after a DVD player you'ld be mad not to consider this.
The picture and sound quality are both very good and it is pretty quiet in operation. It can upscale DVD pictures to higher resolutions in an attempt to get a sharper picture. The output resolution is changed with a button on the remote control, causing the player to cycle through its available resolutions which are confirmed in the players display window.
At its price level of £35 for the unhacked (Region 2) player, it is a very good value machine.
Other customers seem to have had the same problem. Should you still be advertising USB for this player?
