I absolutely love this version of the Lego Millennium Falcon. Sadly I missed out on the previous one from a few years ago so when I heard they were releasing it again, I had to have it.

First off, the packaging is what you would expect from Lego. Nothing too fancy and keeps to the general packaging of most other Lego products. It's a good box with some nice pictures blah blah blah.

The first thing I noticed as I opened the box and took all the pieces out was the inclusion of a sticker sheet. I was a little bit gutted as I much prefer the bricks to be printed as I've made some mistakes in the past with other Lego products and ruined the stickers. Yeah, I'm that stupid! Anyway, it's not a major issue, but something I thought I'd point out for others who may be slightly anti-stickers like me! (This really doesn't take away from the fact it's an awesome piece though).

So, as you would imagine, there's a lot of pieces and it does take some time.....but it was A LOT of fun to build. There are a couple of fiddly bits but nothing that will cause too many issues, it is after all in the nice big instruction booklet! I didn't think it was a particularly difficult model to build.
It really is amazing to see how they've planned this piece and I found how it's put together quite genius!

So, once you've built this, you can marvel at the detail that's been put into it. The interior looks great with consoles, seats and even the hologame table. Apparently it's more detailed than the previous version.
There's also a trap door and a door to slide 2 figures in to the gun turret in the middle of the ship. They really have tried to include as much detail as possible.
The cockpit is easy to access which fits 2 figures in although it can be a bit of a squeeze.

When the chance to review this came up I thought Christmas had come early. I've recently bought myself the Star Wars Lego Five X-Wing Starfighter and 75095 STAR WARS TIE Fighter which are both awesome models and gave me hours of fun putting them together. However, they're a bit big and I decided to stop there before I ran out of room/my wife kicked me out! Still, I had the chance to send for it, I couldn't resist, and I'm glad I didn't.

While this is no UCS Millennium Falcon (which is currently retailing for approximately £3,000-£5,000 on eBay), it is an excellent model with a load of detail. It is also very faithful to the shape of the ship. I've seen some people saying they don't think it's an accurate representation and that the front "prongs" are too small but comparing it to images online, I think it's pretty close. Obviously it's not to scale with the mini figures; for that it would need to be literally twice as big, and at 31cm x 45cm x 12cm (height to the top of the new design radar dish), it's already a pretty sizeable model.

Having compared it to other versions of the ship, it is incredibly similar in appearance to LEGO Star Wars 7965: Millennium Falcon. I think it's fair to say the designers used that as the starting point and updated it from there. Parts of the design look very similar and others look identical.

Another Star Wars film on the horizon and an updated Lego Millennium Falcon as an accompaniment.

For Star Wars fans, and I include myself (I think the first film is the best) and my son (who would love to live in the Star Wars universe in its entirety) the Millennium Falcon is ‘probably’ the most iconic of all the space ships of the series.

Lego have produced a new, and in their words ‘leaner and meaner than ever before’ Millennium Falcon with subtle changes and tweaks including dual twin loaded spring powered shooters.

Two and a half years ago my son and I spent hours that ran into days putting one of these kits together. It was an epic build and the end product sits pride of place in my sons bedroom. The kit was complex to build even following the instructions to the letter. The end result was worthy of the hours we spent putting it together. My son loved us building it together.

We have been very fortunate in road testing this ‘new’ product.

There are subtle differences, the top hatch, a two seat cockpit, bring loaded shooters, extra hatches, rotating gun turrets and a forward opening front panel that appears to be powered by hydraulic struts. These differences do enhance the kit over the previous incarnation though outwardly it is a face lift without being too much of a face lift. It is still the Millennium Falcon after all.

If you are a Star Wars fan or a collector then this will probably be on the top of your Christmas list but if you have a previous model it might not make as much sense to be looking to purchase as the changes are relatively subtle.

There are also new figures with this kit which will probably be available as collectables elsewhere.
