Product Description

Based on The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy, LEGO The Lord of the Rings follows the original storylines of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, taking players through the epic story events reimagined with the humor and endless variety of LEGO play. Trusted with the dangerous task to destroy an ancient magical ring that threatens all that is good, Frodo is forced to leave his peaceful home. But the ring wants to be found and the road to Mount Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed, will be perilous and riddled with Orcs and fouler things. To help Frodo, a Fellowship is formed —Aragorn the Ranger, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir a Man of Gondor, and Frodo’s Hobbit friends Sam, Merry and Pippin. Players relive the legend through the LEGO minifigures, as they explore wonders, solve timeless riddles, and overcome endless foes in their quest to destroy the Ring.

My pre-ordered copy of LOTR arrived yesterday - excellent service!

I've had a few hours playing, and am pleased to say that the game is well up to the usual Lego standard.

The gameplay will be familiar to those who have played other Lego games on the DS...different characters have different skills and abilities, you play first in the story mode and can then play the same chapter again in free mode.....loads of stuff to bash, build and collect....and a vast playing arena.

The game is perhaps not quite as accessible as some of the other Lego titles. Younger players may need help working out what to do for some of the tasks.

I loved the way the story starts with the forging of the ring. And the story ( as far as I have played so far!) is faithful to the original.

My only minor quibble is that sometimes when you try and place an object it is hard to find exactly the right spot to stand...I kept dropping the item until I found the right small spot to stand.

But an excellent game nonetheless.

Well, I have begun the free play element of LEGO LOTR on DS (the on DS bit is important) and I'm afraid to say it is an absolute disappointment. I'm considering not finishing it tbh. I don't know what game the others who've given it 5*s have been playing but not this one! It's absolutely stupid, difficult to navigate (the map either disappears or misleads on many occasions), difficult to understand, loads and saves every few steps and inconsistent in terms of challenge. At times I have wanted to throw my DS at a brick wall it has made me so frustrated. There are sporadic redeeming elements, but they are lost amongst the rubbish. I had it pre-ordered for months and was so excited about it, being a massive fan of the DS, LOTR, LEGO and LEGO games. I have heard it's awesome on other consoles, but it is an epic fail on DS :(

This lost a star for one reason; lack of clarity. It is often very unclear what needs to be done, and I often found myself looking up the solutions to certain parts of certain levels. However, the cut scenes are as good as ever (and have voices this time), and the gameplay is much like the other games. If you like Lego and Lord of the Rings, this is a must have.

I was excited when I saw this game, I love the Lego Star Wars series and have played them to death. This was a let down, the levels are confusing and it isnt very clear what you have to do, also the figures and the scenes are absolutely tiny, was this designed for another console?

What a great game, can't get past the dark rider at the mo.
It plays much like the TT versions, except they do'nt look so much like lego pices.
If it was'nt for the fact that unit needs charging now & then,i'd be pl;aying it all the time.
A great but.

At first I thought this was an awesome addition to the lego series, but I am totally lost. I have no idea most of the time if I'm playing an actual level, or at one of the points where you can buy characters/extras, or how to move on from there to the next phase. I've looked everywhere online for a general map to show how to navigate levels but it's hopeless, and I'll probably not play it again, although I'm less than 50% through the game. If anyone reading this can help please do! I'm stuck after having fought off the spider but can't find a new portal to get onto the next section of the game. I just keep going round in circles.

The actual game play is good though, but it's not much use when you're completely stuck. I did go back to the earlier levels in freeplay but haven't found a single red brick. what's going on??

LEGO is the perfect medium for any story, and this one, long-awaited by my son and myself, has been worth the wait. The action is smooth, the story is as complete as possible and the quests are heroic and entertaining. We have all the LEGO games for the DS and the Wii and do not begrudge a single farthing of the cost.
