It was only then that I began to appreciate what I clever little set it is. Getting small models to look good with relatively few pieces is an art in itself, and this little guy looks like a lion for sure. There are a number of new pieces on the set that help this, including the painted eye piece, the triple tooth plate for the claws on his feet (which look adorable!) the little side tooth, the micro ball jointed hinges which allow for fantastic articulation, and the small concave half arches on his back legs. Not to mention the smart construction of his mouth and great looking mane. The mini-figure has an equally impressive hair do which reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog and sits nicely on the lion's back with an impressive sword.
I gave him to my daughter who immediately started jumping him around the living room shouting "Rrrrooooar". He now sits on top of our fridge guarding it next to my Lego AT-AT, and is every bit as impressive, except perhaps in the size department. But for the price, it's an absolutely great set and I immediately bought the Lego Chima Eagle set 70124 from Amazon afterwards as I was so happy with this one. Recommended.
This set contains the Lion Legend beast and the Laval minifig (whose the prince of the Lion tribe).
The Laval minifig is very nice. Good printing on his torso (back and front). But his shoulder armor unfortunately covers most of the printing. (Anyway it's completely your choice wheter or not to put the shoulder armor on the minifg, so I guess it doesn't matter.) There's nice printing on the legs also. (Sadly no printing on the side of the torso or legs...as is the case with MOST of the LEGO minifigs). The headpiece is the best part. It looks great. But one complaint here is that, the headpiece should have been a single complete piece (like the headpiece in the Ninja Turtles minifigs). Here it's like you first fix the regular circular LEGO head and then you put the face of the animal (like a helmet) over the head. Anyway, at least the minifig looks good and I guess that's what matters in the end.
Laval carries his "Valious" sword (which is nice) and a transparent shield. I didn't like the shield because it looks too plain. I wish there was some printing on it. Then it would have been nice.
Now coming to the main part of this set, the Lion Legend Beast. Now I have seen the "Legends of CHima" cartoon show. There, the Lion legend beast is a real lion. Here, the lion looks extremely mechanical and NOTHING organic/realistic. This is the WORST part about this set. Now if you DON'T compare this LEGO build with the original, then in fact, it's pretty nice! It's quite flexible too. And I think the sand-colored bricks used in this set are not very common and for those into MOCs, it's real helpful for them. Also, this set contains a few new LEGO bricks that were never seen before.Read more ›

My son loves this - it's a lion (his favourite animal) and lego; what more could he want.Published 9 months ago by Pennywise
