Another lovely item from Lego - there's good reason that the concept has enduring appeal to children, parents and early years practitioners - they're fun, colourful, big enough for little hands to handle independently but importantly they're safe and well made. Bought for my niece for her 1st birthday and she took to it straight away.
I liked this set particularly because the bright and colourful pieces allow imagination and creativity to develop, rather than being prescriptive about what an animal (etc) 'should' look like. As a result, children can build imaginative animals, monsters etc, providing rich opportunities for talk and early language development as well as the obvious object manipulation, fine motor skills etc.
The bricks are interchangeable with all other sets, and the wheeled base is proving particularly exciting. I only wish the string on the pull-along part was longer. As soon as my niece can walk, she won't be able to drag it along beside her, which I would have thought would have been part of the designed appeal of a "build and pull along" set. It will probably have to be swapped for string, which seems only a minor quibble, but would introduce a choking risk. Just a little design oversight in my opinion. Overall, however, this is one of those rare products which combines timeless appeal with hardy resilience, resulting in excellent value for money.
