The ship is extremely robust once built and is a good size for flying around.
Considering the large shuttle is £80-£100, this is good value and has some good pieces that will be reused to make many more spaceships. It doesn't have too many pieces that can only be used on that model.
Easy to put together and he loves that the top lifts off and the arm comes out.
It's Lego so very well made. Great price on Amazon...much cheaper than the Lego store.
This was given to my son for his birthday earlier this year and I'm not a fan, it looks great and with it being Lego you'd expect something great, but I am honestly disappointed with this one. The cargo bay doors on top constantly drop off when you are opening and closing them, the hubble space telescope and arm doesn't fit inside easily you have to physically detach it and fold it in such a way so you can close the doors (not great for my son to do, he's 4 n a half now and fab with lego but not this set) I even struggled with it - whether I am doing something wrong I'm not sure or whether the hubble space telescope is not supposed to fit inside with the cargo bay doors shut I don't know?
Lots of pieces dropped off when you playing with it, (the rocket blasters at the back, the flaps on the wings, the cargo bay doors) in the end I am not sure who was more frustrated out of me and my son. From all the lego we own this one is played with the least, the planes and boats we have are miles better and we've had hours more play time fun with those Lego City ones (see my other reviews).
The best bit is the little Astronaut, my son did enjoy flying this around but other than that doing anything else with it spoilt 'play time' when bits kept falling off.
Sorry to say it folks whether we just got some dodgey Lego pieces but this Lego Space Shuttle has got the thumbs down from me! I'd opt for something else or maybe save up for the space center - hopefully that doesn't drop to bits when you play with it.
Couple of notes in terms of the build itself:
1. This is a 'modular' build---pieces sorted into numbered bags so you don't have to fish around so much finding what you need.
2. The instructions do not show a parts list on each page as many Lego sets do. In essence, the builder has to look at the previous page and the current page to determine what has "changed" and then choose and place the pieces accordingly. This might be a little challenging for novice builders but the ship is pretty straightforward so it's not a dealbreaker. If you end up with too many leftover parts, though, you probably missed a few steps!
I had no issues with the instructions or the photos in the set. Once constructed, the crane arm and satellite stowed correctly with the doors shut. I got this whole model together in less than 15 minutes, and then we got right to playing.
